Dammit, why do I bother?

Monday was a beautiful day.. and a holiday to boot - so I gave the car a nice hand washing, towel dry, with some spray-on wax. Yesterday we got some snow and on the commute home it got covered with the typical road spray and salt. So covered with salt now that you can feel it on the door handles and see it in chunks everywhere.

Sure would like to have that 2 hours of my life back from Monday....

.... just venting.

I always look at it as removing the "old" dirt so I can get hit with a fresh layer. For me, it never feels like a waste of time. At least with your new coat of spray on wax, it will clean up easily next time!

Down here, it's usually the crappy little rain showers that ruin perfect washes/waxes/details. The way I get over it is to look at the car washing ritual every Saturday morning (I wash both mine and my wife's SUV) like it is just a part of my exercise routine.

Find a way to enjoy washing the car, try listening to music maybe.

I understand what you are talking about, only thing to do is keep washing and try to find some fun in it!

I've given up. We're in a drought so there's no outside watering, and by the time the drought gets lifted it will be spring with tons of pollen (A nic F-- u goes out to those people who insist on having a tree which flowers) which will cover the car before you get a chance to dry it. PITA !!!

Yeah love the warm weather of FL, but that 5 min shower every afternoon would drive me nuts. So that fresh car wash will only last you a day maybe two?

LED - you have described EVERY DAMN WEEKEND for me. My car spends its evenings outdoors, so it never makes it more than a few days maximum before the weather leaves its mark. To top it off, it's black.

So for a few hours, I get the pleasure of having an absolute stunning jewel of a back car, then it's either dirt, road salt, or dust. But I'll give it the same attention the next weekend.

I'm looking forward to another ONR session this weekend. It made the car look amazing last weekend. Then, it probably will rain Monday.

Yep. I actually do enjoy washing the car and doing some detail work on nice days... sucks this time of year though when those days are rare and you immediately get grime all over it again.

It's completely covered with salt now... hoping the weekend will be warm enough to at least get it through the touchless and get the salt off.

"It seems it never rains in sunny southern California" unless I wash a car. E90 was in the shop Monday so I clayed and resealed my truck. It rained Wednesday, and one road I normally don't drive had been assaulted by trucks from the fields, so the mud was up to the windows from driving on paved roads.
It worked out OK though. Yesterday, when the traffic backed up at a light, I had no qualms about taking the side dirt road to the next intersection

Well, I feel your pain but look at it this way. Why do you shower everyday? So you dont have that FUNK STANK! If you didnt wash and care for it it would always look and feel like a piece of shit and then you end up like this guy.

I feel the same way, especially in Detroit. I think I may just let it go for all of next winter, and then spend a 3 day holiday weekend in the spring detailing the living hell out of it!

I feel your pain. I don't hand wash in the winter, but I just took it to the car wash over the weekend. Today, we're right back where we started. That's winter for you.

I look forward to stormy days. I have a couple of other cars I can drive if I want, therefore I just park mine in the garage and dont feel rushed to do a long detail. Then the day after the storm, people look at me like a night in shining armor. Everyone has a dirty car and mine looks new.

The only down side is all the little puddles that kick up stuff, but come by wish a waterless wash or a QD and its a good as new.
