I haven't been able to get it to work. BMW Apps tells me to connect my device to USB, but nothing happens when I do. I have a Note 4 FWIW.

BMW support for this is lousy -- even if it did work, the most recent Android phone BMW provides a snap-in adapter for is the Galaxy S3.

The good thing about having an Android, though, is that you can flash tuning maps on your ECU with MHD Flasher, which you can't do with an iPhone.

Not according to BMW. Supposedly, you can get web radio using the BMW Connected app on an Android phone.

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/bmw...egory=&device=

The description on Google Play says it's for cars with production dates July 2013 or after, though.

Welcome to the world of Andriod, It does not surprise me an andriod app does not work on all andriod phones or andriod versions. Most all review I see for an android app there is always people complaining that an app does not work with various phones from various suppliers. Do you really think BMW or whom ever they hired to make their apps test their app on all the hundreds of android phones.

Won't work. Where is the class action suit when you need it to get our $300 bucks back for an option that doesn't work.

Another solution would be to buy a cheap iPhone 4 and use your android as a hotspot to to get internet on your iPhone.

This really hasn't been the case for a few years now. We have 5 android devices at home: HTC one (M7), Moto G, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Tab Pro, an old Asus transformer tablet, and also an iPad mini that is pretty much only used for Candy Crush.

All the recent apps I've ever used and tried work flawlessly on every single device, even though they are running different versions of android (Jellybean, KitKat, and Lollipop).

I found no difference in app usability comparing my HTC One to the iPhone 5 I had for a year. I had the same apps on both devices and never had issues. The biggest difference is how the OS is laid out, so if you are used to one, you probably won't like the other. It's more of a preference thing now. I totally get how someone used to iOS doesn't like using android, and vice versa (I did not like the iphone when I had it).

There really isn't any good reason that android isn't supported by BMW. if thousands of other devs can do it successfully, there is no good reason why BMW can't, other than laziness and stubborness.

Now with CarPlay (apple) and Android Auto, there are two standardized protocols for getting content from your phone to your car. I know the new Hyundais offer both, when will BMW?

I know someone who has NBT (i.e., a production date after July 2013) who has it working with their Note 4. But as the BMW site indicates, it's just web radio, email and text messages, and a couple of other not very interesting things. As far as Pandora, Tune In Radio, etc. goes -- the BMW site specifically says these are limited to iPhone.

BMW has always lagged behind with this kind of tech. How long did it take just to get USB ports that you stick a flash drive into, when even crappy Toyotas had long had them? And Bluetooth A2DP audio -- that took forever. Android Auto and Car Play are the future (for now), but who knows how long it will take BMW to adopt and incorporate.

Despite having nav, BT streaming, USB flash drive use, I still have a mount for my phone next to the display. So its essentially just as convenient as anything BMW Apps could offer, if not more so because it's a touch screen. And Waze beats the pants off of the nav anyway.
