my weekend cleaning my intake valves!
2007 335i AT got the intake off and radiator fan just cleaned all 6 valves pretty dirty in there! No hiccups so far except for me breaking the nipple off the top of a radiator hose that connects to the expansion tank :/ Next im going to take off the intercooler drain coolant and oil and do the ofhg and thermostat.
Quick question about replacing thermostat ive searched but couldnt find an answer...do i take off the waterpump to reach thermo or can i just get to it no problems? |

If you are doing the thermostat, you might as well just do the water pump, it is an extra three bolts.
To answer your question though, you can remove the thermostat independently of the water pump. |

I had to remove wp to get my tstat out, not sure if it's because of my ER intercooler but I couldn't pull it over the subframe and out like the instructions said

True, new bolts are recommended but most don't get replaced with new and most blocks in reality don't get damaged. Basically, largely depends on how careful and skilled the tech is. |

Sure, you can over torque a fresh bolt too. But they stretch the first use, so easier to snap on reuse

Is nothing but good marketing and reason to upsale, especially in the NA market.
People elsewhere have been reusing the so called "stretch" bolts long time before the online "fama" begin. Even on more important components like timing belts and brakes. In most cases customer is only being charged but the bolt will be reused. |

So you don't see any reason not to reuse torque-to-stretch head bolts? Glad you aren't working on my car, I guess... |

Yes, that makes both of us happy that I'm not working on your car. However, next time you work on these stretch aluminum bolts try to pick them up with a magnet and let us know what happens
