Huge flash and loud explosive bang

I have an E92 335i. Today on the highway driving in heavy rain my car had a massive flash accompanied by a large bang. The flash was so bright it looked like a white/yellow flame. I was only cruising at 60,ph due to the rain and traffic. My friend was convinced we got struck by lighting. Well the car displayed engine malfunction and I pulled over. I didn't recall and rough idle or limp mode because my foot was off the throttle as I pulled over. I shut the engine down then restarted it and the engine was fine. The information display between the tach and speedo went dark. Nav still worked fine and so did the tach and speedo. Service engine light was yellow. The AC unit no longer had cold air. I had autozone check my codes and it read that the ambient temperature sensor failed and /or failed connection. I inspected the car to see if I could locate the source of that flame or flash but could not see anything. I ordered a new sensor but was wondering if it could be anything else. My info thing is back on but reading -4 and AC is not working. The fan control works but the "max" cool won't even work. Is there anything else that it could be? Thanks for your help.

Close Encounters of the Second kind: A UFO event in which a physical effect is alleged. This can be interference in the functioning of a vehicle or electronic device.

Dealers are getting pretty aggressive about flashing out ECU tunes. Were there any drones in the area?

This. Hopefully you didnt get probed too.

See if you can claim damage through your insurance company.

You got hit by lightning. Happened to me in Wyoming in a rental car about 15 years ago. Scared the ever loving crap right out of me. No damage to whatever turdmobile I was driving, probably a Taurus.

Did you ever see the remake of War of the Worlds? Did you check your trunk for aliens?
