31.2K service
Maybe I dreamt it, but I could swear that I read that there is a service covered under warranty (USA) at 31.2k (=50k kilometers) that is not triggered by the computer and includes fluids and plugs. Anybody aware of this (or sure that I am nuts?)

Yes, IEDEI posted the PDF on the 1M Facebook page. A couple of weeks ago I had a service done triggered by the computer at 27k miles. I e-mailed my dealership with the PDF and said I wanted those things done. My dealer is in South Bend, IN.

This print-out was great; my "key" was cranky at read-out time, but my service rep was willing to "wing it" and do everything: Plugs, diff, trans and engine oil. Don't know if they changed the air and micro filters; they still have the car (3 series loaner!) to try and fix the blue tooth. Thanks for your help and now ready to venture into the land of moderate mods and pay as you go repairs/maintenance!

Thanks for posting the PDF!
I just had my 30,000 mile inspection done about 1 month ago and all was done except the plugs, MT fluid and diff fluid. I printed out the PDF and dropped it off to the dealer today. They are going to do a little research, but I got the impression that they just need to make sure it is covered. They were surprised that it wasn't part of what the key reader showed them when the car was in. |

Did the CBS tell the dealer to do all the service when they scanned your key or did you have to persuade them?

The pdf linked on the post in the 1M Maintenance sticky here:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...4&postcount=65 implies that this 31.2k service is tied more to the CBS counter (#3), which corresponds to the general impression that MTF/diff/plugs get done with the 3rd oil change, on pages 14-15. This is particularly relevant to those of us with relatively low mileage 1Ms. I think in practice this will be quite variable amongst dealers. |

The SA even went to the detail shop to get my key. They're really good at my dealership. And I got an i3 loaner on top of it! |

I was hoping to get to fool around with i3; had to settle for 328ix; very bland and NUMB steering, but the base stereo sounded pretty good!

Well it turns out they didn't do the 30k mile service after all. Apparently I had an early oil change and the car "thought" it was ready for the tranny, diff, and spark plugs due a reset code being put in. All I got was my yearly oil change. The 30k service items price out at about $800-$900 or so.
As for the warranty I am probably just going to skip it. The cheapest one is maintenance only and it gets a couple years of service at $1700ish. The repair warranties are all very expensive and it will be cheaper to just save the money up. I'll scan the pricing and post in a bit. I only had the i3 for 8 hours but it was pretty fun! |
