Oil leak
So while I was changing the oil on the car yesterday, I noticed an oil stain on the underbody panel right where the two panels come together towards the middle of the car not far from where the oil drain plug is. It's actually on the second panel(not the front one where the oil plug is). I tried to look up in there with a flashlight but couldn't really see too far because of the awkward angle and not having much clearance with the jack stands. All I noticed was a label that said something to the effect of MT lifetime fluid and that area being oily as well as the wires underneath it. Not sure if the oil has something to do with the transmission fluid or if there is oil dripping from above onto that area underneath. I understand a picture would be of great help but I didn't have my phone nearby to take a picture. Anyone have an idea as to what it could be or anything that could be eliminated based on the description? I will try to get it back up on the stands tomorrow morning before work and take some pictures. The car seems to be running fine and its not dripping so much oil that its showing up on the garage floor. As always I appreciate anyone's feedback!

My guess is the oil pan gasket. Same exact thing is happening on my car ('08 E90). I have an appt set next week for the dealer to give an official diagnosis.

probably the oil pan gasket. I just changed mine out a few weeks ago. PITA but can be done in the garage if you have stands that are tall enough for you to hang the subframe far enough.

I would have to agree!
My oil leak turned out to be the valve cover gasket leaking because one of the aluminum bolts that holds the cover on (there are 20 of them) had broken and wasn't holding the cover tight in one spot. Took me a while to find, but I first noticed it when oil was showing up at the bottom of the engine... |

i'd start with the usual first valve cover gasket and oil filter housing gasket. But from looks of it it could be oil pan gasket or rear main seal.
