Replacing run flats - how to reset TPMS in car

I'm replacing the OEM run flats on my 2011 335is with a set of 19" Pilot Sports. As they need to be inflated to a lower PSI than the OEM run flats, anybody know how to update the setting in the car for the new recommended (non-run flat) inflation?

Use iDrive to go to Vehicle info, then TPMS and calibrate/Reset it. Your car will learn the new PSI and let you know the deviation from that baseline you just set with your new tires

Or without iDrive simply start engine, then
  1. click up/down on the switch on the turn signal stalk until you see Tire symbol and 'Reset' below it
  2. push in on the switch at the end of the turn signal stalk
  3. push in and hold that switch for 5 sec. until you see 'Reset (checked)'
  4. start driving to actually cause TPMS to learn current pressures in tires

Have you tried reading the manual to find out how to reset tpms?

You guys expect someone to RTFM?! History has proven that so many owners never open the manual (witness the hundreds of thousands VCRs with flashing clock displays in the past!!!) that many products assume that an INTERESTED owner will go online to download the manual, and you are lucky the product manufacturer includes a printed Quick Start sheet! (what I had to do with my new smartphone just this month) And maybe the car was purchased used, and the earlier owner never included the Owner documentation that came with the car.
No, easier to ask on the web than to download a manual and read it.

Why would you run less air on a go flat tire (as opposed to the RFT)? You should use the recommended PSI that is in the door jam regardless of if it a RFT or non RFT.

If anything I would run more air in a go flat tire because it doesn't have the added support of a stronger side wall to support the vehicle as designed. Just don't put in over 39 psi on a newly mounted tire because the beads need to seal properly... after a week or so you can run 40 or more (but not greater than what the max is written on the side wall of the tire).

on my 18's i like to run 36 front and 40 rear with go flat tires

Indeed, it's easier to ask a message board with fellow enthusiasts than it is to head out to my car in the rain and dig out the owner's manual.

Where's the sense of community?

TPMS doesn't care whether you're running RFT or not, and I don't think it cares what the desired PSI is - it only cares about what the current PSIs are when you RESET the system, and then it lets you know when it deviates from that. I imagine people run different PSI front/back and don't have to dial that into the computer?

Oh, and you can find the manual online from BMW with your VIN. I don't recall that being too difficult

Most topics like this, or similar discussions, are on this site which you can easily search for without beating a dead horse.
Just an FYI.

That's correct.

I believe the car only cares that:
1) Warn you if the PSI is below 29 PSI to say the tire is low on air
2) Warn you if the PSI change is a drop of greater than 10% since the car was shut off (last reading).

The TPMS will only send back 2 values
1) Battery percentage
2) Tire pressure in BAR's (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar_%28unit%29)

+1 for Wilt
not many people have time to read a manual when you can just ask online.
