The infamous 45-40mph whine

My car has developed this, 2008 6AT xdrive 335i with 101,600 miles. I've read other posts pointing to the rear diff for this issue, but it sure seems like it's coming from the front. Sounds like a frequency sweep and high pitched on deceleration, still does it engine off and in neutral while coasting.

Tires are 1yr old, alignment is good, i removed all of the underbody panels to inspect... didn't find anything wrong or leaking/damaged.

Car has warranty on it so I guess i'll take it in, kind of disappointing. I've noticed since i've owned it if you shift into reverse while the idle RPM is above 1000 it sometimes "clunks" in the rear from the rear differential.
