Pure Diesel instead of Biodiesel
I have a 328d that spends a majority of its time in Chicago. The minimum recommended fuel blend is B7 as per the signage on the diesel fuel lid. Getting non biodiesel in Illinois is generally difficult as the IRS gives tax write offs to pumps that carry biodiesel over B11-B20. So most generally carry biodiesels.
I wanted to share with people in similar situation about a B3 diesel BP gas station on Fullerton and Clybourn. This is almost pure diesel. Are there any other gas stations that sell non-biodiesel diesel fuels at their gas stations? If so please share those locations and I could create a google map of these locations for everyone's benefit on the forum. Thanks all. |

Ha! That picture was from google street view. Definitely a few months old though. The current price is around 3.19 in the area. It is just a coincidence that there is a BMW sitting at that pump. But still 2.41 is just fantastic price for diesel in New Jersey.

What cracked me up was that I was sitting in a Shell station when I read your msg. We may have low gas prices, but I can't think of many other reasons to want to be in NJ!

Found an awesome website that differentiates between regular and premium diesel. Not sure how accurate it is. But definitely more useful than gas buddy as it just generalizes biodiesel as Diesel.
http://www.gefleet.com/fuelpricemap/ Update. Proceed with caution on this as some of them listed are not updated. |

Foods 4 Less stores, Sam's Clubs, Meijers (as mentioned), Mobil Stations on toll road oasis, Shell stations that sell Shell branded diesel (doesn't have label -"This is not a Shell Product") have less than 5% biodiesel per my email exchange with Shell Customer Care. A small percentage of biodiesel is good in that it increase lubricity while also increasing mileage per a Consumer's Report comparison a Edmunds long term test of a Passat TDI

Found another issue that I wanted to get to everyone's attention. I found a marathon gas station on Jefferson and Roosevelt(closest main streets) that sells ultra low sulfur diesel or so it seemed. Some pumps had a label and some pumps did not. After inquiring with the manager he said that they have only one kind of diesel. The one with ethanol. This despite of the ultra low sulfur diesel label on one pump. So wanted to send out cautions to anyone. Here are pictures of what the label looked like at the pump versus what they should look like. The green label is what one should look for.
