Cobb VTT Stage 2+ 135i

Thought you all might be interested in more N54 news, also posted this in the other forum

Thanks to:
Tony@VTT (Stage 2+, inlets)
Dzenno@PTF (Cobb with maxboost!)
Jake@MOTIV (PI Kit, love me some e85)

Hello, everyone... I just want to share my 2008 135i daily driver with the community. I have been DDing my full bolt-on 1er for about two years until my turbos finally gave out at the dragstrip a few months ago. I took that as an opportunity to upgrade and picked Tony's Stage 2+ turbos over the competition. I'm very happy with the direction I went with and have had zero issues with the hardware. I have also had great interaction with Tony throughout the process. I appreciate the time he has taken in calming me down after a short delay (lol), as well as in helping me pinpoint issues after the install.

I have been able to DIY all my mods, but the turbos simply intimidated me so I took my car to Eurowise in Charlotte. They took great care of my 1er, especially after some post-install issues had me driving my car back to the shop. My only complaint is the 2.5 hour drive to get there from my place!

My MOTIV PI (Thanks, Jake!) will be arriving tomorrow and the SS AIC sometime a little later. I was originally waiting for the TBI kits, but Steve pointed out that I should look into PI if I wanted to max out my set-up.

Once I install the PI kit and sort out all the kinks, I'll be bugging Dzenno about an e85 tune as I run 93oct daily (we have one e85 station almost an hour away). Thanks for giving Cobb+maxboost a shot and making it work, Dzenno! Thanks to Ken for getting MAXBoost out in the market as well.

I like to hit the dragstrip every now and then. Just over a hundred passes in my 135i and my previous C5 Corvette (both autos), so I'm not particularly skilled nor experienced. But I'll be back with numbers once everything is dialed in and the weather starts cooperating... even though I'm dreading breaking things again haha.

VTT's Stage 2+ (20t unclipped)

Eurowise took great care of my 1er, especially after some minor issues after the install

Thanks! Nothing turbo related actually. The 02 sensors were swapped and the driver's side brake line was loose causing a small leak.

I live in Charlotte and I have used this shop in the past and they do great work. My Pure turbos should be here soon and I am debating on installing them myself or having Eurowise do them. Can you comment on what they charged you?

I have a lift in my garage and all of the necessary tools but I can't decide if I want to tackle this job.

It's not a 1er deal. It could've been done without dropping the engine, I believe that was their protocol for N54 turbo installs.

Definitely DIY-able, especially with a lift. Will PM you info.

Personal preference more than anything. I sold my tablet with kdcan cable the moment Dzenno proTUNING Freaks said that I can still use Cobb AP with maxboost.

I'm happy sticking with Cobb and letting Dzenno do his thing. If he ever tells me that we've hit a wall and need to switch, I won't hesitate moving on either.

So are you doing a pump gas tune and an e85 tune? Looking forward to the results...

MAXBoost will work with COBB or MHD. You could even use it with OFT or just a BB flash if you wanted. The only issue you'll have is boost will be shown as reported boost and not actual. MHD supports MAXBoost so actual boost is displayed and logged with the purchase of the MBoost license.

Custom mapping is required. You need to make sure load is calculated correctly. With AT or DCT cars, Torque Output Actual needs to be scaled correctly to prevent transmission issues.

What kind of power are you putting down on 93? I am looking to do the same thing. We have almost the same mods minus HKS BOV for me.

Yes, sir. A 93oct tune for DD purposes and an e85 tune for the dragstrip.

Not sure yet actually. I'm on first revision of the starter map and I'm still waiting for my PI kit. I feel like it's close to my previous FBO e50 map... hard numbers coming this fall for sure.

Apologies if I came out boastful haha, not my intent at all.

Thanks, so are you planning to use the PI kit with the e85 tune only?

I'd like to keep it running full time to help keep the valves clean. I'll probably end up with two different PI maps, one adjusted for pump only and one for e85. I prefer to run straight e85 full time as well, unfortunately the closest station is almost an hour way.

I thought PI kit doesn't work for pump gas?

Like it doesn't help you run any more boost or timing.

It probably won't help power-wise on just 93, really need higher octane more than anything.

In my situation, I prefer to get the PI kit set-up then get the maps dialed in as opposed to finalizing the maps now and having to adjust them again once I install the PI kit.

if you plan on doing that make sure you mount the SS AIC controller OUTSIDE the dme box that way you can switch maps much easier. I have mine inside the dme box and its really stealth but i cant get to it easily. (thankfully terrys maps have worked out great for my rb/inlet setup with ad eng PI kit)

be careful with running PI with 93 or 91 octane. I guess try to spray very little fuel at first to see how the car handles a little extra fuel and go from there. you dont want to flood the motor with fuel.
