Brake confusion

Hi.

New to owning BMW here and still a bit overwhelmed by the range of options... And the cost of everything!

I've tried to get my head around this post which has loads of useful looking information about different brake options but I'm still a bit unsure of what I have on mine I'm afraid.
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=858607

Anyway, a few weeks after buying my 2013 330d m sport touring the service light came on saying my brake pads needed changing.

I took it to the dealer who have said it needs front pads and disks and rear pads at a cost of £830! What? Is this cost normal for standard factory brakes?

First of all can anyone tell me what options I have fitted to my car for reordering purposes? I have included photos of them and the part numbers if anyone has that level of knowledge! By the looks of it I have factory 1 piston calipers and 330mm disks???

Is there a cheaper place I can order genuine OEM brake parts or good quality after market ones to fit myself? I've looked on here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...BMW-330d&mg=34
but am still baffled by what I need to get!

Is it normal to have to change disks on these cars? I did many many miles in my old volvo which I serviced regularly without ever needing to change get them!

The car has only done 24000 miles. Is it normal to have to service the brakes so regularly?

Any help/ input/ ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

BMW newbie

Your car has the original brakes installed
330x24mm front Part# 34116792221
330x20mm rear Part# 34216864899
As you are in the UK you could ask an EBC Brakes partner for possible replacement options for your car.

I don't think you can safe much, but get better bite brake pads for the same money.

I used to drive the EBC RedStuff Pad and GD Sport rotors on my last BMW. However for the F30 series you should ask, what the already have available.

This is really useful to know Oceanview; thanks!

It doesn't seem EBC do an option for my car on Brakes4u. I'll give them a call on Monday to check.

On the realOEM website I've found 2 options for repair kit, brake pads asbestos-free on the rear brakes:
34216855474
34216850570
Are these both for m sports calipers or would they fit mine? What's the difference between them? Also once you click on them there are further codes for each one such as (3L51) and (3L52). What on earth does that mean?

Please excuse my ignorance!

Thanks

The items you mentioned above won't fit on your Brakes.

original replacement pads are:
34106859181 for front
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=34_1968

34216850570 for rear
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=34_1969

Note:
The following recommendation applies to vehicles more than 48 months old:
- Replace retaining spring

however, your dealer should know that.

I saw that EBC Brakes does have some parts for your car listed on the German Web-Shop. I don't know why the are not listed on UK Shop.
http://ebc-brakes.de/start.php5?&pag...=&Shop=1&Ma=11
(for your car the parts marked as "Modelle ohne M-Technik" apply)
EBC-Brakes UK is located in Northampton. So just around your corner.

Front Rotor:
EBC117380 Premium Disc (marked as not yet available)

Front Pads:
EBC117161 Blackstuff
or
EBC118732 Greenstuff
or
EBC117026 Yellowstuff

Rear Rotor:
EBC119242 Premium Disc

Rear Pads:
EBC117610 Blackstuff
or
EBC117637 Greenstuff
or
EBC118582 Yellowstuff

You've been a massive help Oceanview; thank you.

I called EBCBRAKES last week and they said they don't have brakes for my car yet but the first lot look set to be delivered within a matter of weeks. The guy on the phone thought the German shop might have them earlier as they have more demand.

Anyway I don't have a couple of weeks as am driving around with 2mm on the rear so ordered pads and sensors and front disks from a friend's garage. Total cost: a little over 200.... Much better than 830!
