VO Trouch Up Paint...what's the story?
So I tried ordering VO touchup paint and my parts guys says that they can't order it. Same with Sakhir Orange? Is it made from Orange mermaid scales and Unicorn horn powder?
Anyone know what the story is on VO touch up paint? |

VO touch up paint is only released after either Trump or Boehner return from holiday in Valencia; Hence quite rare

I tried to order some from one of those online parts places that is part of a BMW dealership. I was told the VO paint was no longer available. Later, I went into my own dealership in Idaho and inquired about the paint. The parts guy said he'd have to order it, which he did, and it came in a few days later. It is still very much available.

As someone who travels and spends time in Europe every year, as well as in W. Canada, I always find the Canadian application of the metric system to be "amusing." In Canada one picks and chooses which system to use based upon the the usage and the item. The gas may be sold in liters, and speed limits posted in kmh, but large parts of the old imperial system are still in common usage for food items, clothing, etc. Undoubtedly that is because Canada just can't divorce itself from the huge elephant economy south of the 49th parallel.

As someone that travels extensively to the US I find it fascinating how it simply can't divorce itself from an archaic system used by such advanced nations as Liberia and Myanmar. |

I was just commenting on how Canada says its metric, but it really isn't, and that isn't Canada's fault, it's just you can't really go metric when the country with which you do 70+% of your trade is not metric. Just can't do it, plus the people go back and forth, probably more so for the Canadians than the Americans, so you have to be able to use both systems, especially if you are Canadian. I said "probably more so for the Canadians," because the Canadian population is heavily concentrated along the international border, whereas the American population is much more evenly distributed over its land mass. |

Metallic paint
I think it has to do with VO being metallic. Any metallic paint will be very hard to touch up. Back in the day with my E36 in Estoril (which is metallic) I tried a product at the time that was called Langka (I think) and had mixed results. Then tried that same product on my buddy's blue wrx which was non-metallic and it worked wonders. I applied the touchup and knew where it was, but after the product even I couldn't find where the scratch was.

Dr. ColorChip works great on small, not so hot on anything bigger than 2mm in my experience with both VO and Jaguar midnite.
Agree VO bad as a paint job; only worse was red 93 RX-7! |

I wouldn't waste your money and time with the BMW touch up paint as it's difficult to use. Dr. ColorChip appears the way to go. My kit arrived, but I haven't tried it yet.

It is great to get such useful advice from people with experience using the actual products they talk about. Reminds me of a lot of 5-star Amazon reviews, that basically say the product arrived promptly and they look forward to using it
