335 purchase opinions
Picked up my Vic sourced 335 from the WA transport company yard very happy until I noticed the promised runflats weren't runflats at all. Now I know that with many of you that would be a cause for celebration. But there wasn't a spare either. And no spare key
Should I sort this out at my own expense and move on to enjoying the car? |

Re: run flats, just purchase a BMW tyre mobility kit and get yourself NRMA membership if you haven't already.
Spare key definitely needs to be addressed though, Socket did a thread about this recently i believe. And Welcome btw. |

Runflats suck ass, i always get flat tyres as i dont drive it often, need to put 45psi in them to hold air pressure if you leave it parked up.
Get onto them about a spare key though!!!!!

The salesman sent me via a text a pic of the rims as I wanted to check for kerb rash. At that point I asked if the tyres were runflats and he said they were. I have the messages on my phone to prove it. I expect his response to the spare key issue will be that I didn't ask.

If you really worried about a flat, you could buy a spare: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/en/showpa...diagId=36_1274 http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/opt...are_wheel_kits They're large enough to clear the big stock brakes. Extremely hard to get and expensive. I have one, the previous owner bought it and I have never put it in the car haha

I dunno about that... I've china tyres on my skyline and they are only good for if you want to go sideways everywhere (even at 1/2 the speed limit)

Definitely complain to the dealer and see if they'll reimburse you some of the costs of getting run flat tyres and a spare key, submit a complaint etc. The dealership should play along.

If it's a CA key you need to go genuine. I picked up one approx $600 plus coding. The normal genuine ones were approx $500.
I also have a tyre repair kit with a reamer, eyelet, rubber Vulcanising strips and glue which you can pick up from super cheap auto. I fixed a run flat with the kit once and it worked fine. Of course you also need a mini compressor to pump the tire back up but only takes about 15 minutes or so. So great if there is no NRMA or other assistance around. Emergency Tyre Repair
I was thinking of getting one of these as it will tuck away quite nicely in the compartment above the rear wheel well. Might be a bit slow to pump up a car tyre but good for emergencies and great value.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/170979662163 Here's a similar tyre repair kit I was talking about: http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/onl...spx?pid=130246 |

The non RFT tyres "are roadworthy and you won't be getting any more" Ive complained to VCAT (Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal) who've said if the RFT type tyres weren't specified in the Carsales ad and the sale contract then i'm not entitled to claim them. Surely the text from the salesman telling me the tyres are RFTs constitutes part of the contract because it was an online transaction? |

I am not sure why you'd go to the time and effort to put run craps on your car? Sure the zetas are crappy but the RFTs will be horrible. In either case you'll still want to put decent non run flats on your car anyway.

I wouldn't hassle them too much further for the sake of run flat tyres, a lot of owners that do a bit of spirited driving tend to opt out of the rfts purely because they do not handle the bumps well, as well as being quite noisy once they've worn down a bit.

I would say that if they're standing firm on not replacing the tyres then they must provide you with a spare wheel or reimburse you for the purchase of a repair kit as they have illegally sold you a car without a spare.

Basically the dealer has sold you an illegally modified vehicle as if you were to get a flat, you have no way of getting home. Yon need to explain this carefully to the people at VCAT. The dealer should have taken more care. If you don't get anywhere and since you did the transaction without being in VIC, you could lodge a small claim in WA. http://www.magistratescourt.wa.gov.a...actsheet_3.pdf This is for a claim of less than $10k. I've been through this process quite successfully a few times. Last edited by mmmmQuattro; 10-21-2015 at 06:37 AM.. Reason: Added the file link |
