A lot of rain but great auto cross experience. The instructors were awesome. I was also impressed by the inside display and cars to peek at. Got to buzz around in a few new models.

I did Autocross on Tuesday and full M car control Clinic on Wednesday.
AUTOCROSS Autocross is a no-brainer cause its FREE! I did the X4 since the 3/4 series ones were full. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it handled and was told that the X4 times are typically faster than the 3/4 series thanks to more power and same 50/50 weight distribution. I ended up second place overall in my group. Seeing as it was my first Autocross event, I was happy with the results and what I had learned from the instructor. TEST DRIVES 650i convertible- Handled like a boat as expected. The feel of the power was a little underwhelming for a screaming twin turbo v8 but the car was a great cruiser with the top down. i3- I was overwhelmed at how good of a car this is. Did you know its the fastest 0-30 car BMW has ever produced? The silent 0-30 felt Tesla-like and surprisingly a lot of room in there for two adults to sit comfortably. z4- I had always wanted to drive one of these and I had very high expectations. Unfortunately I found it under powered, sluggish and disengaging. These cars are meant to be nimble, but unfortunately the new ones just feel way too heavy to get any fun out of. M CAR CONTROL CLINIC Full day M car control clinic was totally worth the $750. They spend between $800k to a $1M at each city they stop at to run the Ultimate Driving Experience: $750 is basically just to help offset some of the tire costs as you BEAT those cars up. There were about 3 students to each instructor and most of the instructors were insanely experienced and knowledgeable. One of the female instructors was the stunt driver for the Need for Speed movie while another dude was in WRC for years. The day consisted of the following: M235i- Slalom course exercise M235i- autocross course practice M3- ABS braking exercise M3- straight line braking exercise Lunch 228i- Power slide exercise M235i- Slalom timed laps M3- Autocross course practice M4- Team autocross competition I fell in love with the M235i. 320hp AWD goodness packed into a light and nimble little package. Like many of you, I had always loathed these "fake Ms" that BMW has introduced in recent years but this car is special. It reminds me of an E46 M3. For autocross, the M235i was actually even more fun to toss around than the M3/4. I can't wait to drive the coming M2. Overall, I feel like the CCC is a great tool to hone driving skills. It was fun, rewarding and enriching at the same time. |
