Joining the carbon fiber and red tail crowd!
After much learning from this forum I decided to change my interior trims from brushed aluminum to CF wrap and wow, couldn't be happier. When I was done with the interior I thought, heck, let me wrap the side mirrors and see how they look and they came out very cool. Pics:
Sleeping Sleeping Still sleeping Awake Inside And while I was at it I thought I might as well tint my tail lights all red: Picture from afar And back to sleep Overall I would say I spent about 6 hours working on the inside trim - well, the first 2 hours was really learning and messing stuff up and going through two rolls of CF wrap since this was my first time working with CF wrap Last edited by Larsim; 11-01-2015 at 04:33 PM.. Tails look nice. Are you running the 4" exhaust tips?
*CF vinyl, not CF. |

And thanks for the correction on the CF - fixed it to CF "wrap". I was so excited that I finished this project without breaking any parts that I forgot the difference between wrap and the real thing |

+1. I wanted to do this to my car but I never actually pulled the trigger on it in fear of it looking too cheap. Seems in pics though that yours came out beautifully.. might have to give this a shot.
I saw ECS has CF vinyl rolls on their website.. was tempted to buy a roll. How much did you end up using to do the entire interior? I'd probably skip the mirrors since my car is black.. Anyway, looks great!

Yeah i like the look of it and if i get tired of it i can always just peel it off so thats nice.. i just don't want to spend a ton of money on the carbon vinyl just incase it doesn't look right.

I'd skip the interior since I have the brushed aluminum. I'd definitely want to do the mirrors. I also have a supposed factory trunk lip that I kinda wanted to wrap as well.

I'd like to do some of that CF wrap to my interior, but I think it's beyond my abilities. How do you prep it, cut it, shrink it?

Yes sir, these were the tips:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-25-inlet-4...0481d5&vxp=mtr I got the wraps from Pepboys: http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/430843/00165 Ebay is cheaper but I wanted to first see and touch the wrap though before buying it. Quote:

Here are the tools I used: - Plastic dash removal wedges - A tool box with Torx bits - Razorblades - Heat gun At first I tried using the wife's hair dryer but it failed so for $20 I bought the heat gun and it saved the day. Next you will want to find out the most important part, how to remove the trims. Google and Youtube will be your friend. Here are the resources I saved on my browser's favorites: - Removing the steering wheel trim: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=243169 - Removing the trims: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=137527 - Applying the wrap. I watched this video and it helped to give me an idea of what to do. When you get to the edges you will want to use the heat gun which will make it possible for you to stretch the wrap so if conforms to the shape of the piece you are trying to wrap. Not a difficult project at all especially after you wrap one or two parts. |
