those are style 338 wheels. they are 8" wide. if you look on a site like tire rack where they give the specs for the tires, as an example for the continental dws the size 235 and 245 width tires are measured when mounted on 8" rims.

i guess 245's should work all around and maybe add spacers in the back?

I was recently looking into the same thing for my 17's. I like the idea of meatier tires instead of bigger wheels. Do a google search for 245/40 17x8 and you'll see some pictures that look pretty sweet, in my opinion.

Are you installing spacers for appearance? How thick of a spacer?

245/40 17x8 is the stock size of the rears on the E36 M3, they look nice and meaty! Some guys go 255 on them also

Yeah, you can do that, but I like to run a square setup, and 255 up front isn't something I wanna do. I'm pretty low.

No spacers. Want to keep tires same size, too.

I just did avin check and didnt even know that car came with optional M suspension. Im guessing its sitting lower. Can it give me issues with 245/45/17 all around? Im sure the rears will fit. I guess my concern would be front rubbing.

I would go with 40 rather than 45, personally. I dont think you will have an issue though. 45 might still look good with a nice looking tire.

40 will be a little less rolling diameter than what you have more, 45 will be more than your have now. Just FYI.
