Admiral renewal!
So love them or hate them they were far and away the cheapest for me last year at £311 with everything declared.
Renewal just arrived and now they want £709! No claims or offences. Unbelievably compare the market show Admiral as the cheapest quote at £323...!!! What gives? |

Cheapest always through comparison and not renewal.
However, we can swap if you like? My renewal was £4,800!!

Common price gouging technique. Either get a new quote or competing quote from a sister company like elephant. Give them a ring and with the quote reference number and they just double check everything matches before giving you the matching price if you want to stay with them.

The thing that has worked well for me in the last is to get a competing quote from a comparison site. Call up your insurer and ask them to match it . Usually works and if not just take the new quote. |

DirectLine does that every year, we've got to get a quote online, save it on our profile and call them and they'll match that!!!!

Nope, not if you're with 1st Central! My renewal quote was lower than any on comparison sites, including ones from 1st Central! And I made a fault claim from them last year!

Have you tried moaning? Mine last year was £880, this renewal they wanted £1490. I did have a non-fault accident done through the 3rd party's insurance, but still an insane jump!
Guy on the phone got it down to £920, but Privilege were offering £805 so a no brainer! |

Was with admiral for 14 years and for the last 5 or so of those they upped the renewal massively. Standard tactic hoping you'll auto renew and if not, call, at which time they'd drop the price.
So it was my was standard procedure to get other quotes and they'd match and often go better. One time I called without other quotes and they dropped their price to a few pounds off the previous year's. I then decided on passive aggressive - don't call and just pi$$ off elsewhere. I figured if everyone did that they'd stop the practice. |

Interesting snippet from Which? that I wasn't aware of:
Moving the start date For all our collected quotations, the initial quote provided was for insurance cover active from the 30 January - the day the quote was taken. But we then went back and changed the 'start date' to see what effect this had on the annual price. With most insurers, this didn't impact cost - but with several, it made a huge difference. Moving the date forward a day to 31 January knocked £121 off Nationwide's premium, £115 off LV's and £95 off Direct Line's. With Tesco Bank, a one-day deferral of cover cut a blistering £780 - or 49% - off the initial price of £1,577. Postponing to 1 February took the quote down another £99 - a reduction of £879 over the two days. A cheaper premium if you buy in advance Insurers told us that those who buy cover in advance statistically pose less risk, resulting in cheaper premiums. A Tesco Bank spokesperson said: 'Some of our underwriters have identified that the period of time between the quote date and start date of the policy can be a risk factor, and so this can affect the premium that is offered.' Tesco Bank contacts customers 28 days before their policy expires to advise them of their premium, advising anyone shopping around to do so well in advance. LV said that it sometimes offers discounts to customers who insure in advance, but that it regularly changes rates in response to market conditions and 'policies that start on different dates may have different prices, according to when a rate change takes effect.'

Ive had this in the past with Admiral, so Ive rang them and told Im not renewing the policy, and then just taken out a brand new policy with Admiral online.
Regardless of the tactic to try and catch me out, Ive stuck with them as they do make the process pretty easy if you need to claim. |

I was with Bell, a sister company of Admiral's, my premium went from roughly £600 to £1300. The real kicker is that they sent one of those "your insurance is up for renewal, you don't have to do anything, it will happen automatically" emails with the new price buried down a good few scroll clicks to tell me. I wonder how many people just ignore them? It really grinds my gears when companies do that! I can easily imagine my elderly parents not noticing or paying enough attention to spot that. The companies are just trying it on.
My first call resulted in a "special" price concession of £200 - wow! I then went to price comparison websites, found a quote from Admiral for £400! I then phoned Bell and got put on hold. The hold music was interrupted by a canned message thanking me for call ADMIRAL and to please wait. The chap who picked up the phone then claimed that prices on the internet could not be met and Bell and Admiral was a different company. When I told him they were the same and to check their hold message, he fessed up and offered me cover for £400!!!! Not only had they dropped their price by £900 in two calls but they admitted to trying it on by denying any link to Admiral. I thanked him and told him to shove his quote where the sun didn't shine. No loyalty, no ethics, no morals. |

I always search around for the best price at renewal and make a point of taking out a new policy before phoning to cancel my renewal. Even if they offer to match the price I will not go with them on principle. If they don't offer me their best price at renewal I am not interested. |

I have never found multi-car policies to be best value. Each time I have tried it, it has been cheaper to have two separate policies, even when its with the same company
