Active Sound Design present in B48 engine ?

Hello everyone,

Just ordered a BMW X1 2.5d M which will be delivered half January normally.
I will post my build later here
I was going through the technical pdf files located in the general section and i came acros the engine.pdf which has a section on page 12 about active sound design.
Am i understanding this correctly that this engine (B47) has ASD?
Thanks for the feedback

Best regards
Mathieu

I assume you mean the B47 engine. The B48 engine is the new petrol/gasoline engine replacing the N20 in the LCI 3 Series.

Also, all US-bound X1's receive the B48 exclusively. It's our only engine "option" over here.

Does someone know if this ASD is now present or not? because if it is then it should be able to modify the in car sound right? like to sound like a M3 or anything else that is in the ASD database?

Not sure about the 2.5 D however, have just picked up our new X1 xdrive 2.0D this week and noticed even when ignition/media system is off (and car parked in garage) there is a very low level sort of ambient level hissing in the cabin... could this be a function of ASD ? We have the Harmon Kardon option. Why am I sitting in the car in the garage ? Well because have never had an interior with ambient lights like this ! 3 days in and very pleased.

Is there an option to disable the ASD in iDrive? Maybe try that and see if the hissing goes away. Also, maybe check under the seats for snakes.

Not sure if its an option in iDrive. I did read over in the F30 (3 Series) forum about people who wanted to get rid of the unwanted noise of having to code out the ASD rather than using the iDrive.

Since this car has ASD, does that mean we can also make it sound like any engine already present in the database?
Info about this all over the web

I'm not talking about M3 sound but anything more sporty sounding than a 2 liter diesel , i would have gone for a 3.5 but 2.5 was already top.

I'm certainly not the authority on the subject but judging from what was being talked about over in the 3 Series forum this might be possible. Apparently the way to get rid of the sound through coding was to set the engine type to an unknown engine. So theoretically this might mean that if there are other engine sounds in a "database" it may be possible to code your engine to something else. Link to thread below.

Does anyone know if the Xdrive2.5i has this ASD?

I didn't really push it in a test drive so I don't really know what it sounds like?

Does it have any pop/fart sound like a GTi/R or Merc A250 ?
If not could that be programmed as an ASD thing or is it more an exhaust thing?

Can anyone confirm the diesel engine also has the ASD just like the petrol engine?

I just had a look on real oem and cannot find any reference to the ASD module on either the petrol engine or the diesel. So assuming it is in the same place as the one in my M235i the X1 does not have ASD.

Interesting as I could find no reference to the module in realoem. I doubt many would want extra Diesel engine noise pumped into the cabin via the stereo though.

When you look at the ASD database, there are a lot of nice engine sounds to choose from, even some nice diesels. So i'm hoping ASD will be present so i can then program it to my liking.

Didn't know it could be coded. I always assumed it was just the actual engine sound synthesised and played through the stereo. E60 M5 V10 would be very appealing...

Is there anybody who can confirm the presence of ASD?
Like somebody who has his car and experience with coding?
You can quickly see if you find the proper coding present

Math.

I am planning to buy an X2 - when available as hybrid with 4-cyl petrol and 100+ kw rear motor.

As of today I have to make do with my X4 with:
-lowered chassis
-Klappenshalldämpfer with two-mode sound - legal and illegal.

I hope there will be a real exhaust system with good sound - not an electronic gismo - for the X2.
