325 xi gas mileage???

Sup all... Just wondering if anyone was experiencing horrible gas mileage in their 325 xi. I am getting 12.8 mpg and have bout 170milles on it. I dont beat on the car but I was wondering if this is because of the break in period... any helpful insights thanked.

I have a 330xi and I get just under 23 mpg.

I have about 1600 mi. on the car. Even when it was new, the gas mileage was about the same as now. I basically get about 180-190 miles on half a tank.

Do you have a 6MT or Step? I have a step, but mostly use the manual mode in the city and put it in Drive when I get on the freeway (about 14 miles RT on city streets and 36 miles RT on the freeway to work everyday).

I have a 330XI Steptronic and when I picked it up from the dealer in Heidelberg, the odometer display said 3.5 miles, and the mpg said 8 miles per gallon. This was because as far as the computer was concerned, the car was being driven in first or second gear, very short distances at very low speed and engine efficiencies. As I drove the car around the city and on the autobahn, the mpg reading kept improving. I currently have over 4,000 miles on the car and the overall display mpg is 23.5. The actual mileage (computed with a stubby pencil and piece of paper) is a littel better at about 24 even. It would be better, I think but I drive a lot on the autobahn at 120(mph)+.

Are you sure you are looking at the right units in mpg not in km/100L? Because it would make sense if it's 12.7km/100L for a new car.

Sure you don't mean 12.7 Liters per 100 Kilometers?

I can't remember if my mileage was quite that low during the first few hundred miles, but it's normal for it to be pretty low in the beginning. I'm at about 2,000 miles now and am getting around 19.5, doing very little highway driving and always driving in M or DS modes.

I am getting lousy mileage on my new 325xi but I had a 2004 325xi and it was lousy for the first 1,500 - ,2000 KM then it started to get better and was usually about 9 l/100km which is about 26 MPG.

I've got just over 2000 miles on my 325xi and I am not getting as good mileage as I thought I would. The car's computer says I get around 18-20mpg. If I'm doing primarily highway driving it says around 24-26mpg.

When I fill my tank up it usually says I have anywhere from 320-343 miles until empty.

thnkz everyone for their feedback... I am still under 200 miles on the car and amdoing more city than hghway driving. Some of you seem to have had the same problem so I guess itll go away after the break in period. Anyone know how long to break in the E90 or how many miles to have before switching to manual or ds?

Just another data point for you. I'm driving a 330xi manual transmission. I'm still in the break-in period and have been averaging 8.6km/L for mixed highway and "city" driving (the city includes country roads with mixed surfaces).

This is equivalent to approximately 20.2 miles per gallon (US) or 24.3 mile per gallon (imperial/UK).

Must say I'm pleasantly surprised. If it really does get better with time then I'll be ecstatic !

Recommended break-in is 1200 miles. You can go to manual or DS anytime. It doesn't have to do with the break-in period. The manual is protected; so that, it won't let you do any dumb/unsafe shifts.

I have 160 miles on my car and still on the first tank - I'm averaging about 14.5 mpg and I've done mostly city driving - maybe 20 of those miles on the highway. I really do hope this is the breakin period because that's horrible mileage.

I have a 330XI. I get about 20 mpg with almost all of the driving within the city. This was about the same as when I got the car. I started to drive more aggressively after the break in period.

I've driven the last 2-weeks using both the manual and D.

For the next 2-weeks of fill-ups, I'm going to use only D and see what happens to my gas mileage.

Reset the meter on the highway and coast -- it'll go up.

At the very least reset it!

coupedupcivic,

Right now, your MPG is an average from when you last reset it (if you ever have) to now. That will include (as some have mentioned) the times in shipping where the car is going 1mph for a period of time. If you only drive very slow, your mpg will be very high. If you only drive highway, your mpg will be below normal. Your best bet is to reset the computer and do some normal driving and see what kind of mpg you get. You'll probably find it's quite normal. Also, make sure you are in "imperial" not "metric" as metric is shown in L/100km which will show closer to 10-13 instead of the 20+ you are looking for.
