E90 Custom Sub Set-up and other Audio
Hello,
A few weeks back I bought a pretty cool custom built trunk/sub set-up off a different member. I love the look (real hardwood and fabric wrapped panels) but turns out to get the sub making decent sound will involve more work than i'm willing to put in. Essentially, the sub sits in the space under the trunk but to really get decent sound it needs to be sealed. Paid him around $300 and just looking to get something back. The sub is a 12" Kicker which is worth something even without the rest of the set-up. I also have my amp and sub from my original set-up. They sound great and totally change the sound of the stock set-up which in my opinion just doesn't cut it. I'm thinking of just redoing the whole system now so am willing to part with these as well. $100 each seems reasonable. Located downtown Toronto. |

I have my sub in the same location, but sealed it into a proper enclosure (and don't have all the extra paneling etc).
What I found make a HUGE difference was keeping the area behind the seats free. At first I had mounted my amps on the trunk wall behind seats, and no bass was getting in. Ever since relocating the amps, the bass seems to get in to the cabin just fine. I wonder if that amp and all the panelling are doing a lot of harm from that perspective.

My sense from the change from my previous set-up to this one is that it is mainly sealing the sub. I could imagine that the amp placement could have some effect but the panelling in pretty thin and probably doesn't provide any more interference than the interior felt I removed to install it.
Any tips on what you did to improve the seal? |

My enclosure just uses the stock storage liner, fiberglassed in the inside of the storage part, then added a baffle on the top made of MDF. Then got the whole thing carpeted. It was done professionally.
Not sure what your enclosure is made of, but fiberglassing the inside of my OEM liner essentially helped create a "proper" enclosure, with a sealed baffle on the top. Hope that makes sense.
