N55 Altnator Replace

So, I was looking around for a DIY N55 Alternator replacement and couldn't find any. I need some help as I get all the way to getting it loose and just can't seem to get it out. It looks like I have to take out the oil filter housing to do the job, and that would be a big mess. Anyone, please help!!! :help

Thanks but no go. They have it for the N54 engine, not the N55. Thanks anyways!

Should be same almost, some steps might be different. Make sure to disconnect the battery and the belt should be off.

I have not replaced one myself, but just taking a glance under the hood this morning, id start with taking the air cleaner box out. And for the Alt, it Looks like there is 2 bolts on the top and 2 bolts above the Power Steering. Looking at Pictures of the part online, there is only 4 bolts.
Some more details other than it wont come out would be helpful too.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, here goes a little bit more detail. I did take the intake housing off, took the charge pipe off, took the four bolts you are describing off, but one cannot just pull out the atlernator, one has to take it out either tilting it right or tilting it left. The problem is, tilting it left it hits the oil filter housing, and tilting it left, even when taking the plastic part that goes to the cylinders, the electric connectors on the back of the alternator hit a part which I think is part of the a/c unit, so, thats why I'm asking for a DIY, actually, I'm asking for HELP!!

If it only hits the oil filter housing, just take it off. With how much time you have spent already I feel that would have been the easiest solution.

Well, if anyone is still interested in knowing how to exchange, replace your alternator in a N55 engine, here are the instructions on how to take it out.

1. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery.
2. Take off plastic covers on the engine.
3. Take off plastic that goes from front of engine bay to intake housing.
4. Drain coolant fluid from radiator.
5. Disconnect tube that goes from radiator to Oil filter housing.
6. Disconnect cooling fan and remove cooling fan. Don't forget to remove a lug nut that attaches heat exchanger at bottom of cooling fan, better to do that from under car.
7. Remove engine oil cooler pipe from Oil filter housing.(Gets messy so have some oil absorbing paper towel when you do this)
8. Remove Oil filter housing.(Again, gets messy so have plenty of oil absorbing paper towel when doing this).
9. Remove ribbed v-belt.
10. Remove deflection pulley. If you don't remove it you won't be able to take the alternator out, it goes out tilting it towards that deflection pulley, and you still have to work around when removing it)
11. NOW you can go ahead and remove the alternator.

BTW, within these steps, be careful, remove any sensors and connectors, specially on the Oil filter housing, the fan, and the alternator.

After replacing the alternator and putting everything back on, REMEMBER 4 IMPORTANT THINGS,

1. Fill the radiator with the correct coolant
2. Add 1QT of oil
3. Connect all sensors,
4. CONNECT THE BATTERY LAST!!!

Hope this helps out!!!

What type of symptoms did you experience that caused you to change alternator?

I replaced my battery but still seem to notice the battery struggling from time to time to start the car.

It was starting to sound like a battle tank. Ball bearing was busted. Repaired it, no more problem.
