Brake Upgrade: Rotors and Pads
I'm at 53K and needed a new set up. I just purchased Stoptech/Centric Drilled and Slotted Rotors and Hawk 5.0 brake pads. I also purchased 1 sensor front and 1 sensor rear. Is that all I need? I was told I would need 2 sensors each for front and back. Just want to confirm. And if I need anything else.

You don't need any sensors, unless you melted one and got a warning light. Otherwise, just place the existing sensors in the provided cutout in the new pad. If the pads don't have a provision for the sensor, just tie them off on the strut. If you look at your pads occasionally, you don't need a sensor to tell you when to replace them.

The sensors are supposedly not re-usable according to the bentley manual and you need two total ( front left and rear right or vice versa). If you just tie them off per above suggestion, how do u get rid of the brake warning light?

Thanks. You can reuse the sensors but they are pretty cheap so I bought them anyways. Plus I read they could break as well. And I found out you only need 1 for the front and 1 for rear.

On E9x+ BMWs they changed to condition based wear sensors which continually wear and allow the CBS indicator to project the life left of the brake pads in miles. Even a small amount of wear (lowered resistance) of the sensor will not be accepted by the system if you try to reuse it and reset the system (learned this by experience); hence you have to use new sensors with every pad change.
