Swapping MEVD1726 ecu for MSD81
It appears my ECU has died. It is throwing internal ECU fault codes that won't clear and the car won't start. It is a 2014 X1, which is basically a pneumatic wastegate n55 that uses a MEVD1726 ecu.
If I have to buy a new ecu anyway, has anyone tried swapping the MEVD1726 with the MSD81 that came on the earlier N55 engines so it is tunable? Would be great to be able to do a back-end flash. I have a decent amount of coding experience, but have never swapped out an ECU before. Has anyone done this before? What would theoretically prevent it? |

I think the MSD81 is a Siemens ECU used for late model N54 cars. |

Correct. N55s have MEVD 17.2 or MEVD 17.26 for later years. You might be able to change it to MEVD 17.2, but it's up in the air whether it'll support everything in the engine.
