Odd Sound from MP Brakes

'14 335i with MP Brakes. The brakes have 2500 miles on them and I've had the car since 1250 miles. I and others have noticed an odd sound coming from what sounds like the front left brake. It sounds like a metallic rubbing and ticking sound and it's louder when I apply the brakes. The best way I can describe the sound is a thin metal wire touching the brake disc, making a constant rubbing sound and ticking sound each time it passes over a groove or dimple in the disc. As I increase speed the ticking interval increases. I also notice a lot of brake dust.

Any recommendations? Any others experiencing this issue? Should I take it in for service?

Thanks!

Rule of thumb for BMW: bring it in for the smallest problem!

Good call. This will be my first BMW service experience. A bit annoyed that my car has 2500 miles on it and I'm already stressed about an issue. Wish me luck!

So I called my closest BMW dealership and they advertise 30 loaner vehicles to meet customer needs. The first available loader is Dec 30! So they have 30 loaners out?? WTF! I called the next closest dealership and they did a little better at Dec 21. Not happy so far!

Are you saying what I'm hearing is normal for MP brakes??? If so, why?

Depends on the sound, but MP brakes have slots in the rotors that the pads constantly rub on making a sound. If that is what you are hearing, then it's normal.

It seems to be related to the slots and dimples in the rotors for sure. I don't see how anything foreign could be between the pads and rotor surface. Perhaps this is normal...??? Hmm...

Yes, it's sort of a buzzing sound with a tick. I believe the ticking is each time the slot or dimple passes across the pad surface. I had drilled rotors on my previous vehicle (Acura TL) but I did not experience this issue. Not an apples to apples comparison though...

I'm curious if as the pads and rotors wear, will the sound diminish? I would think, yes. Perhaps when I get to the point of changing out the pads I can try a different brand?

I'm starting to think that what I'm hearing is normal and I may cancel my service visit...

Hey, I wanted to ask, does this issue with the noise still bother you? Are you happy with the M Performance brakes overall?
Thanks

No it doesn't after getting some feedback from veteran members stating that the noise is normal. Keep in mind though that it's winter and the windows pretty much stay up all the time, so I bet once spring comes I will be annoyed again. I'm confident that the sound is coming from the rotor and all though it may be normal, I may end up swapping them out if I just can't take it anymore.

Outside of the noise, yes the brakes are fine and I'm happy with the performance.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, it sounds like you are quite disappointed. I can imagine, especially for summer this could be disturbing.
I might reconsider getting the M Performance brake kit.
Thanks again for sharing your experience
