I'm sorry guys...but I'm not feeling the flat and boring instrument cluster running all the way attached to the navigation system...is this a joke or the real MB design?
...and people think this is the new benchmark??!!!

...and didn't MB recently release a new E class?!
I think their last one is still pretty new, isn't it?
or this is a different vehicle altogether?

Thx...so the current E in the streets with the two strike-liner headlights, was that just a LCI then?!

With this interior design, I don't think if BMW has anything to worry about...whatever they come up with is 100 miles better than this crap!

I seriously think you are in the minority here. At first gaze you could confuse the interior design with that of the $250K s65 amg coupe!

No. The W212 debuted in 2009 as 2010 MY. That pic is the facelifted model that debuted in 2013 as 2014 MY.

The new car will be out mid this year as a 2017 MY. So 7 years. Normal cycle.

Just as the exterior this oozes Rolls wannabe to me making it a cohesive package and great for those looking for a cheaper option to those cars but also an unsettling environment for those of us seeking a more sporty ambience. The flat bottom steering wheel looks seriously out of place.

I'm seriously astounded by the fact that some folks actually find this MB's design attractive...no comment!

A couple of buddies and I are waiting for this E class to hit the showrooms. I guess it will be marked up crazy when it arrives.

I hope BMW comes up with an equally good interior.

Please remember that the E-Klasse being presented here features optional Designo interiors (Mercedes answer to BMW Individual)
Therefore a 5er can reach this level of exclusivity when also applied with BMW Individual options.

Of the two pictures I posted, only the second one has the Designo interior. The first one is a standard interior (albeit leather, as MB Tex continues to be standard), including the MB Tex dash with top stitching. I will point out that the digital gauges are also optional as well. Although the standard gauges have about a 7" screen between them that is pretty sufficient. The digital gauges are a stand alone $1,000 upgrade, which seem quite worth it to me because of the level of customization. Audi's virtual cockpit basically shows two views, small gauges or large. Volvo's virtual gauges are lower res and also don't have as much layout. BMW's dash in the 7 series seems to be constrained by the physical rings. I have played with it a smidge, but not seen as much customization. It could be there and I haven't seen it. But personally, I do not like the BMW "sport" gauge with the red, etc, nor the blue eco-pro layout. Selecting the gauge layout should be independent of the driving mode, if so desired.

Personally, I'm not enamored with the diamond quilting that seems to be the defacto "luxury" statement these days from Bentley to Benz to BMW. So when I call the E class interior stunning, I don't really give that much weight (I also HATE the two tone Macchiato Biege / Saddle Brown combo shown in several of the videos).

But I would say that even a base car, without Burmester, exhibits a very high level of class in both design and materials. I would give this design layout the nod over even the 7 series. Yes, you can always do individual leathers, add leather here and there, but the MB design to me is absolutely top notch. I am anxious to see how the 5er's measures up. Judging by the 7er, I'm not thinking it'll play as well, but time will tell.
