Performance Brakes + ECS Lines, installed (PICS INSIDE)

Well, I might receive negative comments but anyway, I wanted to share my latest mood.

I'm still within the 1,000 kilometers of "breaking in" so I've not yet tested them at their fullest, but first impressions are:

- Way better bite
- Pedal feel on semi hard braking more firm
- Noisy, by that I don't mean squeaky, the slotted part makes a "windy" noise, more so when you hit the brakes.

I will come back when I pass the 1K kms and go do a track day where I will have the chance to push them to their limits.

Here are some pics, of before and after installation. Gotta be honest, I love how the look on my car.

EDIT: looks like uploading pictures from the bimmerpost app on iOS does not work. Here are the pics.

You realize the calipers/pistons are exactly the same as stock m235i brakes right..?

The only thing different are the rotors. They look great! I'm just curious as to why you went this route over say a bbk?

Correction, rear calipers and disks are the same size. Front are not, the collage picture for the comparison was edited for the 4 pics fit.

Front rotors and calipers are bigger.

I wanted OEM fitment (plug and play), better braking, I got both.

Oh well, I had both calipers on my hands when they were doing the installation, they were not the same size, that's all I can say man. Cheers

Interesting. I'm just curious is all. Like i said they do look great; i've just been under the impression the calipers are exactly the same.

Maybe someone from BMW parts can chime in on the caliper size comparison to stock?

Do you have part numbers for the rotors OP? Would like to order a set.

Your car looks great with the new calipers and rotors. Especially with those 405 wheels! I plan on doing just the rotors all around with the stock msport brakes. Except mine is in Glacier Silver with the 405's as well.

Did you do the install yourself? Any pointers or things I should look out for while doing this? Was the hex bolt on the rotors a pain to get off? That's my biggest concern but I bought a manual impact driver just for this job so it should go pretty smooth I hope. Just waiting on the delivery man to bring the rear rotors.

That looks great. More surface area should net you some better braking for sure. And they should fade less as well.

I'm sorry but I didn't install them, I took the car to a brake specialist shop, can't give you any pointers.

And thanks a lot for the positive comments

Thanks Steve, I went for the easiest road when I choose this kit. OEM fit, no sweat for the installation guys, nice bigger rotors on the front, cool looking calipers, better braking, I'm happy hehe

Caliper body is same but lug mounts are longer on mppk Caliper to suit larger diameter rotor.

Alexgt - have had the mppk coding done as well so safety systems know the brakes are larger ?

Oh no worries. I actually ended up doing the install myself and everything went smoothly. Looks 10x better now!

Stock M235i rotors are 340mm in diameter, these M Perf rotors are 370mm in diameter. For the caliper to fit over the larger diameter rotor, it has to move further from the hub center. The difference between the calipers may merely be the longer mounting tabs required, but I'd love to see pics.

I wonder if the 370mm M Sport rotors from the F30 (which aren't slotted or dimpled) plus the F30 M Sport calipers (which are blue, and would match stock rears) would be a cheaper path to a nearly equivalent setup...

That's the route I was going towards but read the blank 370mm rotor is a fair bit heavier than the stock 340mm rotor. MPBBK front slotted and dimple rotors are larger and lighter than stock items. Hence MPBBK rotors all round cw blue F30 m sport callipers at the front is what I plan to do.

I'm compiling the parts incl. braided hoses to install ready for spring.

interesting. where did you find the information about the rotors' weight? also, how could the M perf rotors be much lighter?

TBH - I'm a bit sceptical about the quoted weight of the 370mm mpbbk rotor.....hence not convinced the saving will be as much as it reads.....

@Bee Pee, wow, I didn't know that man, thanks for the tip as I was completely unaware that I had to take the car for re-coding! Now the dilemma begins, I didn't install them at the dealership, let's see what those guys will have to say when I ask them to re-code the car ($$$$$).

Thanks a again Bee!

Alex,

As long as you have the receipt, proving the mpbbk parts are genuine OE bmw components, just tell your dealer the install was DIY they shouldn't have issue coding your car for you.
