Need help assessing door swing into my bumper. Grrr!

Hey guys,

Parked at my sons school today and a car pulled in next to me. Seemed far enough away, so I didn't relocate which I usually do. To my horror, she got out and walked around to get her dog out and let her door swing full arc into my (luckily) bumper which is covered by 3M.

So, I'm trying to figure out if the 3M did its job. It looks like there is raised portion at the leading edge of the impact. That's throwing me off. Is that bumper plastic or 3M being shoved forward? Do you think my bumper is unscathed under there or dented? I think plastic doesn't really dent but scrape right? How can I tell without removing the 3M?

Thoughts? Anyone with experience weigh in? I don't want to paint it, but if I do I'd rather she pay than me.

Thanks,

Shroom

Those films are pretty darn tough. But the only way to know for sure is to remove it and see how the paint looks underneath it. I'm betting it's totally fine.

Does it feel smooth still? Like did the 3M tear at all?

It's smooth...the 3M did not tear but you can see that it bunched up so there is that.

3M has saved my bacon plenty of times. It looks all clear to my eye.
You should gently cut a small section away just to be sure. You can then patch it or if you're OCD like me, have the entire section removed, the paint cleaned, and new film put on.

And then send the bill to that a-hole who dared to besmirch your car.

This will definitely be the 3m film. It will be fine underneath. My front near side wing got hit by a chunk of wood on the motorway. Looked way bad and when i peeled off the film it was fine underneath. I couldn't believe it. I thought I was in for a paint job repair.

The film does have some healing properties. I would get a hair dryer or heat gun and gently heat the area to see if the film will relax.

No, You spent a good amount of time looking for a super clean 1M and this happens. I hope everything is fine with the cars paint.
Merry Christmas
