Pleasantly surprised with the 2.8i!

-great build for "just" a 1 series
-amazing handling despite new layout (although I think my loaner is X)
-nice interior
-nice standard rims
-shitty interior room for those with convertible car seats

Hey Shiva, good to see you on the X1 forums (and not just the F30 ones)!

Are you considering an F48?? We're on the verge of pulling the trigger to get an M-Sport for my wife and new baby. I agree with all your points. Some things about the interior feels even nicer than our F30's! (eg. the perforated leather "sport"/x-line seats, the updated Navi and iDrive wheel, the more abundant ambient lighting). We've looked at and tested so many smaller SUV's and crossovers (including X3 and X5, Disco Sport, NX and RX, Q50, Pathfinder, Murano, Q3 and Q5, GLA, CX5, Sante Fe Sport and XL, etc.). I didn't know the F48 was out till I nosied over to these Forums... seems like a perfect fit for something easy and pretty fun to drive (we're in a city with small parking spaces), feels solid, safe, and actually looks decent now. Not as many bells and whistles as the Japanese counterparts, but feels so much better!

Possibly! after having it for a few days, it's smooth, the steering feel is literally like the old school hydraulic one, the handling is possibly better, and it absorbs the highway bumps and bobbles really nicely.

I just realized I misspoke, the lights are indeed LEDs but are in the projector style of Xenons, so the light pitch is meh, not as nice as the X5 LEDS I've tested.

The biggest negative is the space for a convertible seat for our toddler-my wife's seat is wedged to the front. There's literally no room! The F30 seems to have more room I guess in this department...sigh!

Hi shivaswrath, do you have the optional adjustable rear seat? I think it gives you some extra space to move the rear seat forward and back (IIRC, a total of 6" of adjustability). Not sure, but it might give you a small bit of extra space?

Did not know that was an option, that 6" is a huge deal!
Maybe I'm being overly enthusiastic, but the bios quality and noises are amazing-very little cowl shake over bad roads, hardly any random noise or chatter, and no squeaks!
I wonder if my Munich built f30 isn't built as well as this Spartan built X1??

Hi shivaswrath,

The X1 is built in Regensberg, Germany. It's the only BMW SUV built outside the USA, I believe.

Just to clarify my early info, IIRC the 6" of movement of the adjustable rear seat option gives you a few inches forward and a few inches back from the "normal position".

It sounds like the stock suspension is set up nicely for your liking. I need to get me one of those as a loaner car for an extended test drive, hopefully during next years maintenance service. I've test driven an X1 here and there, but couldn't figure out whether or not the suspension is too stiff for my liking.

I'm worried that since the M sport suspension is standard on all US bound X1, the ride would very jarring on rough road surfaces.

Reading review online don't help because they're all very subjective.

Or I might need to wait for the UDE next year to really test drive it.

X1's were never built in the US.

If all X1's are built in Germany and come standard with the M Sport suspension, then I guess I know why I love it-it's just the right amount of compliance and sportiness without the chop of the M Performance suspension I've grown used to.

Thanks for the clarification gentlemen as I learn more about this platform, I'll muck around to see if I can get the seats to move fore and aft (I see a little black loop but unsure if it does the adjustments).

The loops are for folding the seats and setting the recline angle. IIRC, if your seats have the sliding adjustment, there is a handle on the lower front part of the bottom seat cushion area. Pulling it forward releases the seats on their sliding track.

Hi all
I have posted the F48 Owners manual on one of my threads
Have a look for It. You can download it. It explains most of the cars operations

If the seats have the loops then I would imagine it does not have the slide and recline option. Loops substitute for the power mechanism in the back.

shivaswrath too bad they're not even offering 28d, 35d, or 35i on the X1 .. I wouldn't own one without the Dynamic Damper Controls (DHP)/Adaptive M Suspension though =D
How was your loaner?

No, you get the loops for fold & recline even with the slide/power fold option (In the UK at least you have to order the sliding rear seat to get the electric fold).

The split sliding seat is proving useful for getting the dog's basket in the boot. It's a shame that the 2/3rd split isn't adjusted for right-hand drive though - if you want to use the full load length provided by the folding front passenger seat you only end up with one rear seat.

I really liked it - nicely built, great lighting, just small.
Nicely peppy!

I was wrong! The sliding base is only split 60/40, but the seat backs still fold individually with the electric release.
