Contemplating a Move to Denver
So I'm thinking of taking a job in Denver after living in SoCal since 2002. I was born and raised in Denver but haven't spent more than a seven consecutive days back there, and most of them not in the snow. If I move back, it would be back to the Cherry Creek North area or downtown Denver.
With that said, how is the M4 in the snow? I know Denver does a great job cleaning up the streets once snow starts to fall, but late nights and black ice may be prevalent. Is it worth it to park the M and buy some old Jeep or such for the wintertime? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

M4 does pretty good in the snow. With the recent snows, I have been messing around with mine. I have dunlop winter maxx snows on 18's for my winter setup. I'm thinking that if it gets a bit deep, it might get a bit more difficult but the plows do a decent job on the main streets. My wife and I live in Alamo Placita neighborhood so in between Cherry Creek and downtown Denver and the side streets are something I wish the plows would focus more on.
Of course a beater or AWD car would be great, but I think the M4 works pretty well. If it's really bad, we will just take my wife's 235 xdrive. Good luck with the move. |

I'm up in Broomfield and have had an E90 and F80 M3 here in CO. I'm running Michelin Alpin PA4's on 18's right now along with a couple sand bags in the trunk and have never had an issue. They both did a lot better than my old Lexus IS350. I also have a set of the high performance cables in the trunk in case things go really bad.....

As you mentioned, the roads aren't too bad since CDOT and the City of Denver are pretty proactive with plowing the streets.
However, there was that Tuesday a few weeks ago where it was just dumping in the city. I would have to say that I was a bit less comfortable in my M4 than my E92 M3 in the snow. My M4 has Blizzak LM-32s and my M3 had LM-60s. I found that the M4 was more tail happy even when I was going super gentle on the throttle. At the end of the day though, still totally manageable. I even drove up a snow packed hill a few times and there wasn't much of a fuss from the car. |

I haven't had any issues with any of my RWD cars with good snow tires.
Jamesq, where about in Broomfield are you? I haven't seen another SO M3/M4 beside mine in Broomfield. |

Time to go skiing/boarding? If not, there are a ton of brewery tours you can do, catch a Nuggets or Avalanche game, head to Boulder, stay in Denver and enjoy the legal weed purchases (haha!), spend time in LoDo...
