Anyone interested on N55 walnut blast DIY ?

I'm planning to perform a walnut blast on my 2011 335i N55, I have found lot of N54 walnut blast diys but none for the N55, my car got 82k on the odo and I think it's time for the procedure, if there are enough people interested I could document the procedure as a return to this forum community that has been very helpful for me for the last 5 years. ??

I'm sure it would help someone out there and if you have time I say do it. It is a little different than the N54 because of the DME location. cwarren said it was around the same difficulty as the N54s that he has done.

I'm definitely interested, at least up to how to lift the intake manifold, as I need to do that to replace my ofhg, but can only find for the n54.

I'd love to see the before/after pics. All the other before/afters I've seen of N55 walnut blasting show that carbon deposition isn't nearly as bad as it is with the N54 cars.

I know that A DIY provides a little bit different information but the video I posted above your posts shows you how to remove an intake manifold on a N55.

I do not have before and after pics but I had mine done at 50,000 miles and it was not needed. I wouldn't consider doing a walnut blast until you reach at least 75,000 miles for a N55.

I also just finished doing the walnut blast at 50k on the dot, mine surprisingly had a bit of carbon stuck to the valves, but nothing as concerning as the N54's. Fixed my idle a bit as it was fluctuating randomly

I got them cleaned as I installed the meth kit. The car had been tuned from 36,000 miles to 50,000 miles.

I had my intake off for TBI install and noticed considerable build up on a couple valves....the others, looked good for 84k. Goes to show you meth distribution is not equal across all valves. Walnut blast coming up next week.

Well, N55 walnut blast it's done ! Basically I just followed this video:

No need to document again a well documented video. But, I got some very important info for anyone that is planning to do it soon:

1. You need to disconnect the ECU that it's attached to the intake manifold, disconnect the battery before you disconnect any connector at the ECU

2. The connectors at the ECU use different type of connections, so take a look at the video 2 or 3 times before you attempt to disconnect the connectors at the ECU

3. You'll need to reconnect the Battery in your car and make a jumper wire to close the valves in each port before you perform the walnut blast at each port, after you walnut blasted all the ports, disconnect the battery again

4. If you don't disconnect the battery on your car (like me) you car will not start at the first crank not even at the second or third, and if it starts will start with the half engine iluminated in the dashboard, don't panic, you'll need to restart your car 3-4 times and then the ECU will perform a relearn of all the connectors and sensors disconnected to perform this procedure. Don't panic !!!! But again, the proper way to do it, is to disconnect your battery after you do the walnut blast on all your ports.

At 85K my car wasn't bad at all, some degree of carbon was there but nothing to worry about. Anyway my car feels different and more alive.

Is it possible to turn the motor over with a wrench on the crank pulley instead of tapping the starter? I suppose you'd have to remove the fan first.

If I'm not planning to do intake cleaning but want to raise the intake manifold a few inches to access a bolt for the oil filter housing, do you think I still need to disconnect all those cables to the ecu?

No you don't need to disconnect those cables ! I already did my Oil filter housing gasket and just removed all the intake manifold nuts and raised it a few inches without a problem !
