Watch Winder recommendations?
So I've pulled the trigger on a very nice pre-owned Tag Heuer Carrera from Watchfinder!
So as it's an automatic I now need a watch winder! Or do I? Any recomendations please? |

Why do you need a winder ? Decent watch movements stop when the power reserve reaches a minimum threshold so as to prevent damage to the main spring.
If you want a watch that never stops, wear it every day or so or buy a quartz

I was just thinking the same, as currently I wear the Rolex all the time, but now I have another watch I want to have a wonder for it. It's a total pain having to reset the time if I choose to go away for a weekend without it for example.
So only needed if you're not going to wear it every day. Interested to see what advice comes back...

I thought about a watch winder as both my omega and tag's are auto's but I just tend to wear my omega all the time, then when I want to wear my tag I adjust it to the correct time.
Remember, a stopped watch will be right twice a day:-) |

I have one of these - https://www.barringtonwatchwinders.c...-watch-winders
Cheap enough, runs on batteries or mains, looks good and it works. |

Used to have a 4 watch winder to keep em running. Ditched it years ago, no problems ever since. Most will disagree but my steer is unnecessary gadget addition that sucks power all day long . I've also in the last 18 months pretty much exclusively worn a Fitbit or Garmin sports watch so the autos have had a lot of drawer time. Great choice of watch.

I do love the leather straps but I heard they get smelly and are a lot harder to clean so that put me off.

Not sure you are going to get a winder for less than £99 though and even that one I would have my doubts about its longevity. As far as I can recall I paid circa £800 for 2 winders back in 2009 and they were far from the cheapest. Like watches you tend to get what you pay for.

I might just wait a while and see if I need the winder or not. |

I distinctly remember the guy saying that heavy watches needed a heavy duty Winder as the cheap ones would pack up after a while, they are not high tech and appear to be made out of ebony as they weigh an absolute ton!! They havent let me down though and at least 1 of them is on the go all of the time if not both as I usually just wear a cheap Casio Protrek. |

The Barrington one I have has 3 options for direction (Clockwise, anti clockwise and Bi Direction) and about 5 different 'turn' settings and it seems to work fine - 850 turns wasn't enough for my watch and when i've upped it seems to keep it wound.
I got sick of having to wind my watch every weekend as I don't wear it in the week. |
