Extended warranty ?

General questions, first how much is extended warranty with bmw and is it worth it? Secondly is it a one time fee? My cars has been to the dealer twice for "drive train malfunction" last night I pulled out the drive way and it occurred again for the 3rd time! Is it me or is that not a bit much for a 2014 435i m sport?yes it's my daily driver but I'm really beginning to feel like they don't make bmws as good as they use too.

Im also not sure to buy an aftersales warranty and whats should inside it. AFAIK you could choose between various packages depending on mls v/s months.
In my case, I would drive not more than 10000km in a year, a choose for the 60000km / 5 year would be fine. Whats inside must be determined first, but that should be the first point of view. If you have a higher utilisation, then choose an other combination.

I got a VW before and bought an aftersales warranty for 3 years / 40000km and never used it. But I sold my car as it was still running and this had increased the value of sold price.

For you, if you have a running warranty item with your drive train, well, thats a case which must fix aside of the aftersales warranty. They cant ignore a returning failure only because the 2 years are over, no?

(Snark mode on) You know, that information is available on the BMW NA website. And there are many threads here and other places about warranties - Search is useful. (Snark mode off)

But what it doesn't tell you is that you can negotiate the price down by around 20% or so. Which kind of tells you what it's really worth. The prices change by extent of coverage (drivetrain only, electronics, and etc.) and number of years/miles.

You also need to consider if you are in a CA Emissions state, where the coverage is essentially 7/70K (for most engine problems).

Bought my BMW Extended Warranty Platinum (5 years/100k miles) for $3080. I bought it when I was at 49,500 miles.

Coverage to 5 years (from in-service date), not 5 more years.

There's no way to get a total of 9 years of warranty coverage. If you wanted to get the 7 year 100k mile warranty, I believe it was only $200-400 more than what I paid for mine.

I believe my dealer sold the warranty coverage to me at invoice pricing because they printed out the invoice pricing for me to view. Also, the price of warranty sold between the financing and service department (at the same dealership) are different.

If they would have offered me this deal. I would have jumped on it too.

So do you rack up a lot of miles? Just trying to figure out the value in one more year of warranty for $3k. with these cars $3k could very easily happen and then again not. hard to say especially if miles are low. For my money I think I would need more than an extra year to part with $3k. You know?

I drive about 30,000-35,000 miles a year. I took delivery in July 2014 and I have 51,000 miles on the car so far.

I looked up the 84month/100k mile BMW Platinum Extended Warranty and it's invoice price is $3720.
