Two issues on my new x1

Hi all. Just picked up my X1 yesterday and have noticed two problems. One of those things, the hood needs to be adjusted, I fixed myself by turning down the bump stop on the passenger side. The second is that I have condensation inside of both my headlamps. I know I saw someone else mention the hood adjustment but haven't seen anything said about condensation in the headlamps. I have to take car back for tint on the front windshield and side front windows on Monday and I assume they will probably need to order new head lamps. Curious how long that will take with the car being so new.

My X1 had the hood that was way out of adjustment and couldn't be fixed with the bump stop adjustments. Must of been the same hungover worker that did the quality check on our cars. What was your build date?

Have you tried turning on your headlight and leaving them on for a while? This usually cures most condensation problems, if they are minor.

I noticed yesterday when I closed the hood again that the passenger side set higher once closed. I was able to push with my hand to get it to close down properly.

I have turned the headlights on high beam for awhile and let them sit for awhile to dry out the headlights on some other cars but I don't know that these led headlights produce enough heat in order to achieve the same results. Also, I was reading the owner's manual last night and it actually said that condensation in the headlights in cold or humid temperatures was normal. I wasn't happy to read this and it is the first BMW I have ever had do this.

Condensation is normal. I had it in mine for the first 2~3 days. Called my dealer and was told that the LED headlight units are not fully air sealed like HID or halogen headlights and that any condensation should evaporate quickly. Haven't noticed it since. It's actually mentioned in the manual (page 219).

RE hood misalignment, I too noticed that the gap on the left is ~2~3mm wider than the one on the right on my car. But unless you actually get close and measure it, it's barely visible. I was going to recommend messaging nickrice20 since his was quite noticeable and he had to get it fixed by BMW. But he's already replied to your post.

I read the same. I have even more condensation in mine today. I'll still have them check. My hood was higher by about 1/2 on the passenger side and was easily noticeable.

Similar to nickrice20's I think. Mine is actually leveled. It's just the left/right gaps that are slightly different.

I have the same issue with the hood (significant difference from the passenger side) - I had to push it really hard when closing it to actually close properly. I did not dare to open the hood again - I will take it to the dealer to get fixed next week.

My bonnet (Hood) is fine, but both the manual and the dealer (On handover) say that it should be dropped from about 40cm to ensure that it closes evenly.

The dealer also said that it should not be pushed hard to close as it will dent - the bonnet is very soft for both pedestrian protection and weight saving (pedestrian protection is also why there are two catches at the side, rather than one in the centre).

you shouldnt have condesation inside the headlight. I would take it back. Moisture shouldnt build inside the headlight, eventually have water spots inside. smh

i had mine replaced thru warranty on my x3.

I too have water condensation on one of my led headlight. Not only with the headlight, both fog lamps as well. Did they change it?

From the owners' manual page 219:
During cool or humid weather, the exterior
lights can mist over. When driving with the light
switched on, the condensation disappears after
a short time. There is no need to replace
the headlight glass.

If the headlights do not demist, even when
driving with the lights switched on and increasing
moisture builds up, for example water
droplets in the lights, have these checked by a
Service Partner or a qualified specialist workshop.

halogens have presented no issues thus far. Pretty impressed with their brightness.
