F48 Backup Camera / PDC Retrofit

Ouch! Just bought the Mrs. an X1 - have all the packages, HUD, Nav, etc but found out that the backup camera is in a completely different package

Anyone know if a retrofit exists for this car yet?

Standard equipment here in Canada I believe. So many things aren't available yet as retro fits since the model is so new

It most likely be offered with a retrofit back up camera but pdc would require new bumpers front and back. I have seen several other BMW models offer the retrofit rear camera with pretty easy integration.

I'd check with www.bimmertech.com - they offer lots of these integrated rear view cameras and they might have one that is available right now.

I could of sworn that the NHTSA made backup cameras mandatory in all US spec vehicles for the 2016 model year. Maybe I am getting my years mixed up?

I thought so too. But I wouldn't be surprised if there was a delay in the implementation of this law.

Oh no, it's Mrs.'s car...I can feel you.

Just got my Mrs' the X1 for Xmas, I had to have her in the dealership with the SA to go through each package for her picking while ordering, even this was her 4th Bimmer...

Bimmertech is a great vendor, however it's very expensive for the retrofit in addition to void the BMW warranty...

The best course would be talking to SA and to trade for a new one, if I were you, to make Mrs happy.

Your dealer should be able fit the backup camera package as the wiring harness is complete on the X1. You would be up for the components and fitting costs but it would then be under full warranty. I believe that it is only a matter of adding the rear camera set and then having the software initiated for the screen.

Ausf20/f48: are you sure the wiring harness for the backup camera is already installed on the X1? And it goes all the way into the dash?

We definitely have different rear view camera options for the F48 including OEM and aftermarket rear and front cameras.

I believe it's installed "if" you have PDC. Not sure if its there without PDC.

I'd LOVE to have a backup camera also on my non PDC X1

BMW does not install any rear view camera wiring in cars that didn't get the camera at the factory.
It's not difficult to retrofit a rear view camera at all.

Hey people

Trading my 2014 e84 in for a 2017 f48, I pick it up on Wednesday mine has back up camera. I was only able to take the new car for a quick drive, I noticed next to the camera image there was the old car con with the three coloured distance indicators, but I only saw the indicators for the back does it also have them for the front of the car?
