European Delivery

So I'm thinking my next car will be an M2. I plan on doing ED as I will be in Germany for a week in September of this year. My question is, when should I order the car and how good is BMW at guaranteeing a date? The week I will be there in not flexible, so do you think it's possible to get an ED within that time frame?

Your first step is to go back in time about a year and place a deposit at a dealer.

That wasn't really my question. I spoke to my dealer which is out of state and says there is no waiting list.

I had trouble finding an m3 allocation last year but I'm sure I can do the same with the M2 where I emailed about 50 dealerships. Also if things go well, ED allocations will be separate from US.

Trust me if you don't mind going out of state, you can find allocations. These 1 horse town BMW dealers don't nearly have enough wealthy clients to have a list for an M2. Bimmer post is not a good sample to indicate whether or not there is going to be a huge demand. I'm sure a lot of the people who had to be on a waiting list live in big city. I wouldn't even bother with my local dealer here in Miami.

Call a BMW dealer in Nevada and see if they have a "waiting list"

XRAVE is right. Los Angeles is a nightmare for ordering M2. Particularly when you tell them you're doing an ED. I went out of state and have two deposits placed.

With EDs you can schedule them 90 days out from signing the paperwork. I would get a deposit or two down now. You can always defer it if they call you too early.

I think you can get the date you want if you do ED.

However, if you look for a BMW M2 for ED, I would do as you said: contact dealers that can accomodate you for your dates before most US cars are sold. It should not be a real problem now, but I would not wait longer.

Good luck!

I apologize if this has been posted somewhere already as I have tried searching for this answer. But has ED for the M2 been confirmed by BMW?

ED MSRP is on the pricing sheet.

So, when do you think I need to contact a dealer to take delivery of a MY2018 ED in August 2017? If you can only schedule delivery max 90 days after signing the paperwork, is there even point to being on a list?

I was able to start the process five months in advance. You can do up to six months in advance as long as the pricing sheets are already available. Either way, it is hard to determine any timing since we don't know how allocations are going to roll out. If dealers will get one a month, then you could get on a list and just let it roll when you're at the top of the allocation waiting list.

If allocations are sporadic, then I would make sure your dealer is willing to do the leg work to make sure that special sales will grab the allocation in advance of the actual delivery date.

Are there really long waiting lists for this car like the GT3RS and GT4 cayman or can you get a car within a few months as allocations are released?

2 Dealers I spoke with had 4+ people in line. They are both small dealerships and are getting about 1 allocation a month.

So you could get an allocation in 6 months and have your car within 12 months. And that's at a small dealer?

Yea. More like 8 months because it should be ready 2 months after you get the allocation.

Unless they announce that they will increase production or people fall off the list, expect to wait 8-12 months for delivery. Also plan on getting no discount off MSRP and paying 7-800 a month on a lease.

I doubt each dealer will get 1 allocation per month. Which would amount to, at least, 4100 M2s produced per year for the US alone.
I doubt it for a couple of reasons; but, primarily, because of the constraints imposed on the cars production at the Leipzig factory. That subject was discussed at length on this thread: http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1210373

Just got an update from the CA at one dealership. They will be offering ED, but for their initial allocations they will be asking US MSRP, not ED MSRP for the M2.

The discount is through BMW. If they're doing that it's pure markup. I would question if that's even allowed since bmw advertises the MSRP discount

They could sell it at ED MSRP and mark it up from there. Dealer fees, doc fees, Vin etching fees, ect. You name a dealer will come up with a fee to make you think your getting a certain price but just put the numbers somewhere else.

If they mark up the car 5% to US MSRP, chances are they would mark up US MSRP too

BMW charges the dealer X dollars for a car and the dealer can charge whatever he wants to for that same car. Note: MSRP = "Suggested," not demanded.
I think a good way to look at the dealer/BMWNA relationship is when it comes to the dealer, the only thing BMW cares about is that the dealer remains solvent and operational. How the dealer does that is, for all intents and purposes, up to the dealer.

Not necessarily. If they are marking up US msrp, then it might mean they won't even offer ED, unless you are willing to pay the same price as a US buyer would not 5%) less. But for a dealer to mark up to US msrp on an ED deal just means they want to make as much as they would selling it in the states AT the standard US msrp.

No chance this car will ever be available without a dealer allocation. Leipzig would not be able to handle the demand. I'm guessing half the orders would be euro deliveries. They can't even meet demand as is. Much less if they open the doors to more orders. But who knows. Maybe they anticipated this and kept production low for allocated cars. One can dream right?

I'm thinking about punting the 2016 STI Limited I just bought 2K miles ago (barely broken in) and just driving my ZHP while I wait for a M2...hrmm decisions decisions.
