Code 335i brakes on a 320?!

Hi all,

I wanted to buy a pair of brake calipers standard 335i to fit on my 320, and I don't know if I need to code the brakes?!
I know that if I install the complete M Sport brake kit I need to recode, but on the 335i standard brakes, only the fronts have the big calipers and not the rears! I need to recode anyway?

Thanks in advance...

I went this route initially and did not code. It works fine. When I replaced the rear with M Performance 2 pot, I had the DCC coded and it does make a difference.

Hi,

Thanks! It would be good to know how the 335i brakes are coded...

Mostly likely via DDC coding and by engine not 3xxi number.

Sorry. I actually paid a shop to do it. I dunno the procedure. The difference can be felt. When I went to stock 335i brakes with single pot rears, I did not code as I don't think need any coding. If you mod the rear 330mm single pot from the 335i, pls check if it fits.
May need major modification due to handbrake.

Hi,

thanks for the help!

I wanted to put only the 335i front brakes, the rears stay the standard, for the moment.
I only have the front kit, I still need to buy the blue rear big calipers of the M Sport brakes.
After the complete M Sport brakes assembled front and rear, I need to code the car.
The only thing that I wanted to know, is if I decide to mount only the front big brakes, I need to code the car anyway, or I need to code only when I change the complete brakes?!

As mentioned, I did not code and it works fine. Recently, I sent for servicing and the Service Advisor says I need to code. I am also wondering what is needed as I already coded the rears when I had the rear M performance 2 pot done and it is in my VO.

A word of caution, the cost to do piecemeal is a lot more expensive than getting the whole M Performance BKK set. I learnt the hard way and my biggest regret.

Thanks,

I have already the front rotors, calipers, pads, and rotors protection, that costs less than 600 euros? almost new, they have only about 200 km on it!
I must find the rears now, I hope that I will find the complete kit for something between 500-700 euros?.
Even if I must buy the rears on new, that wil cost around 1150-1200 euros?, the total is 1800 euros.
Almost the price of the M performance brakes, but with the M performance brakes I can't use my 17 inch alloy winter set, I must buy a new set of 18 inch winter wheels! That costs minimum 1000 euros...
Even if I know that the M performance brakes are better than the M Sport brakes, in my case it's better to go with the M sport brakes...

I have 335i brakes on my 328i but just fronts only. No coding necessary and it performs exceptionally well. Not sure if it will perform better after coding.

How difficult is it to get the 335i front brakes on a 328? Do you have a parts list for what is needed? Thanks.

Fairly easy. It's all just bolt on bolt off. Didn't look up any guide or tutorial, just started taking everything off as I go.

Part numbers can be found in some of the 335i brakes for sale in the classified section.

The 335i stock single pot rear brakes do not fit the 116i. The knuckle is different.
The diameter of the brake drum shoes is also smaller on the 116i. The dust cover/pan mounting hole is totally different.

You can still mount the 335i rear single pot by measuring the shortfall of the inner drum diameter between 116i amd 335i and fabricate a ring and press it in.
However, this is very expensive.

When I installed the full 335i stock brakes, I did not code and it works perfectly.
When I added the rear 2 pot M Performance, I had my installer code the DCC after 1 week and the difference is significant.

It's understandable. However, I spent more compared to a full M Performance BKK just to add a stock 335i brakes. When I added the rear to M Performance, it cost me another 1000+. If I were able to go back and do it again, I saved and go for the full M Performance BKK.

Hi,

I just got the rear calipers and rotors, almost new with 1000km, for 365 euros shipping included!
Only the rear pads felt,so that costed about 1000-1100 euros for the complete kit in a very good condition, I think it's acceptable, no?

I have 320i, and my mechanic said that I can't install Mperf brake kit because of the parking brake placement. is that true?

I'm not sure about the 320i but the 328i can't use bigger brakes from the 335i, whether stock or MP. Yes, this is due to the hand brake placement.

I have the Yellow MP Brake kit on my 328i, no parts other than what came in the kit was required. Not sure if it's different in the US.
