Perhaps and that's the same for most specialist tools, but it works with all BMW's and offers a very simple and quick way of checking the remaining wear on the pad without having to remove the wheel or getting your hands dirty.
Glorified or not, it's a useful piece of kit. Any ideas where and how I could get one? |

I found his comment quite helpful. After doing so I found multiple places that sell them, and ship internationally. Dropping the same search terms in to ebay found multiple sellers in the UK.

There are plenty of universal ones that will work. Not sure on the best source European source but Amazon or any auto parts store will have one.

I also found some US sources too but for crazy money - (US$85). If anyone can offer me some purchase sources, that would be helpful. |

I am a big fan of using my eyes. When the pad thickness is equal to the backing plate thickness, it's time to start thinking about changing the pads.
Don't forget to inspect the inner pads. Joel
