There is one that will make something pop up in the cluster when you hit the switch, if you don't already have that.

I asked the dealer to update my software so I could have this display, and they said there's no update showing. I know the '15 loaners they have given me have this, and the time display under the tach, not in the center of the IP. My next try is to tell them at my next service interval that the ASS is rough on re-start, to see if I can get a software upgrade that way.

Mine has always had this since new. You depress the button and at the bottom of the cluster it says "heating steering wheel activated|. This displays for a few seconds then goes off. When you switch the heat off it displays "heated steering wheel deactivated"

OP do you have the extended cluster option? Because my KOMBI displays on the extended screen so suspect it doesn't show on a KOMBI without the extended cluster option.

From MY 2015 in the extended cluster (typically found on Nav equipped BMWs, at least in North America) the message Heated Steering Wheel Activated will appear for a few seconds when turned on and Heated Steering Wheel Deactivated will appear for a few seconds when turned off. If you have a heated steering wheel, extended display, and the time displayed in the lower right corner, you'll have this feature. If you have heated steering, extended display and no clock in the right hand corner you don't.
At first it seems like common sense should be enough to tell whether its on or off. Steering wheel hot? On. Not hot? Off. But the problem is that it takes a relatively long (i.e. longer than cabin or seat heater) to heat up. Get in car, warm engine, turn on heaters, drive. Steering wheel cold. Must have forgot or not hit button property. Hit button again (which now turns it off). Still not warm. Hit button again. By this time it hardly matters because the cabin has warmed. I'm sure more than one driver has tried to peak at the switch while driving, a dangerous move. While not a requirement, the update would be appreciated Last edited by casualDIYer; 01-07-2016 at 10:21 AM.. |

I have a 2016 340i xDrive WITHOUT NAV and WITHOUT Tech pack, but with the Cold Weather Package, including heated wheel.
I get the message in the instrument cluster when turning it on or off. It displays for only a few seconds then disappears. But EVERY time I hit the heated wheel switch it will display the activated or deactivated message. |

You'll need to request an I-step upgrade. Tell them your bluetooth isn't working and they will look it up in the system. The bulletin will tell them to do an i-step upgrade. After the i-step upgrade you'll have the heated steering wheel notification on KOMBI.

I have a '14 335i. I had the dealer flash the DME with the latest software and I now have the heated steering wheel activated/de-activated notification on the extended cluster. The DME flash did not move the clock display to the right side; it is still in the center. |
