E92 Heating Up!
I drove my n55 e92 for about 30 minutes. Then i get a warning saying that my car is heating up and that I need to cool it off. I looked at my temperature gauge and it seems normal, but my fan was very loud. When green light hits, my car stalled twice. I was able to get it moving a third time but it wouldnt gas so i pulled over. I checked the hood, there was no smoke. There was antifreeze that spilled out my reservoir though. The cap was tighten to begin with so there was no way antifreeze can just spew out like that. Everything else seems normal or nothing out of the ordinary. I let the car cool down for 15 minutes and started driving again. The car drove normal afterwards.
What could be the reason for all these symptoms? This never occurred before and it didnt happen again but I want to know what could be wrong so i can act on it before it goes worse. |

Most likely your water pump is on it's way out. There would be codes stored at this point. The extra coolant probably came out of the overflow pipe..
I wouldn't drive the car till you have it checked for codes.. |

He has an oil temp gauge, he didn't specify what type of gauge. Agreed, definitely the water pump. Go to an indy if you are out of warranty and buy the pump yourself. It isn't terrible to do yourself if you are handy with tools.

Exactly what happened to me a month ago. Coolant splitting out from reservoir and engine stalled.
My dealer told me the coolant was too low and somehow my coolant system blocked. So I ended up paying about 500 bucks for thermostat and some labor while waterpump was covered by CPO. |

damn 500 for just thermostat? even though my car is covered under CPO, i rather just buy the water pump and thermostat for cheaper and just install it myself. Cause even though is covered under CPO, the dealership still charges diagnostic fee and whatever other fees.
And how long did your car last till you need a new water pump since you got your first warning message about your car overheating? |

And don't drive it at all, you should have free towing to the closest dealership covered by bmw under CPO, at least I did. Make sure the tow company know how to tow your car using the proper hook to pull it up on a flat bed.

Does the car have to be totally broken down or have check engine light to be covered under CPO? My car still drives with no pending codes. It's just that I know my water pump is failing. Will they still cover out?

No you have codes just not one that will trigger a warning light. If you can with a Bavtool for example, you would be able to see the shadow codes.

Like others said - same thing was happening to me - Water pump failure... CPO covered it.
BMW CPO is pretty extensive compared to others I've had. Update: saw it is the same for you - will be much nicer not having to worry about your car overheating! |

just did it 2 weeks ago, the water pump was acting funny for about a week before it quit, no codes either. i bought a thermostat from bmw but got my waterpump from ebay for $180, its not oem but it was EXACTLY the same. its not to hard to do yourself on ramps. takes about 3 hours if youve never done it before (id assume you havent...)
