OP, in general and in my opinion, you'll have a easier time negotiating on an M4. This is due to very limited allocations for the M3 (perhaps 4:1 or 5:1) vs. the M4. A dealer on the west coast posted the current incentives for both. Take this into consideration during your negotiations.
Per MThree_driver, BMW of Sudbury could be a good starting point. I bought my last three cars (435i GC, X3 and M3) from Tulley BMW. I don't have any bad experiences with other dealers and simply chose Tulley due to distance from home. Of the cars listed above, my wife still drives the 2015 X3. I sold the 435i GC last September and will be ordering an M4 within the next month (or so). |

I just went through buying a M3. Agree with the previous post that deals are harder to come by compared to M4 because there are so many fewer M3's (I called every BMW dealer on the east coast down to DC). However, if you are leasing, the lease terms are much better on the M3, so it typically makes sense to go with the M3 for a lease.
I had a very good experience at South Shore BMW, which is relatively new dealership. They had several M4's on their lot when I was there last month. However, bottom line is that it pays to comparison shop at least at all the local dealers - if you have endless time, you can start expanding to other Northeast dealers but I don't think you will save a huge amount by doing that - I only did it because I needed a M3 off the lot and they were hard to come by. |

In the past and if leasing, the gap was significant enough in the residual values where the payment for a M3 would be lower. Looking at the current values, the difference is only 1% (favoring the M3). Though the M4 has a higher base price. This can be offset by the (potential) better negotiated price of a M4 vs. M3. In the end, the difference may not be significant enough to drive a decision. Rather it will be styling or preference of 2 vs. 4 door.

Between BMW of Sudbury and Boston (two highest volume in NE) they have 12 M4s and 1 M3
M4s are starting to pile up. They're going to put more incentives on them if this continues. BMW doesn't want it to look like they're just another "lot" vehicle

It's the same all across the country. For some reason BMW has been making way more M4s than M3s this model year. And the demand for the M3 is greater than the supply.
