Even if Moto-Man would claim that his video ain't technically a violation of the press embargo, we can reasonably assume that BMW will be "nicht amüsiert". Ze rulez are ze rulez.

I've never seen 3295 lb. quoted as the M2 weight. At least not for the US model.
But, if we go back to the "BMW_M2_SpecsDimensions.pdf" document, the unladen weight
is given as this:

1495/1570 (1520/1595) kg DIN/EU.

(See BMW_M2_SpecsDimensions.pdf here: http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1201088)

I have no idea why the DIN (German Institute for Standardization)
weight is different than the EU weight, or why there are parenthesized numbers.
Anyway, those weights in kg convert to the following weights in United States customary lb.:

1495 kg DIN = 3296 lb.
1570 kg EU = 3461 lb.
(1520 kg DIN = 3351 lb.)
(1595 kg EU = 3516 lb.)

Does anyone out there know why 4 different numbers are necessary to describe the weight of an unladen car?

Also, the reviewer is incorrect about the two small radiators behind the fangs.
He says that they are both engine coolant radiators, but only the driver-side one is for engine coolant.
The passenger-side auxiliary radiator is for engine oil cooling. (And there is an oil/water intercooler
above that to help cool the engine oil by transferring its heat to the engine coolant.)

(See M2_Technical_Training.pdf here: http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1224109)

His explanation of the difference between this, the N55, and the S55 is confusing and seemingly inaccurate.

That's true. Only the driving reviews are embargoed until Tuesday.
Some of the technical manuals have been released online already obv.

I am assuming the embargo has been lifted?

Let's see it up in BMWUSA! That's one thing BMW needs to work on. Porsche has their cars up an hour after they are released.

  • 1495 kg = weight of M2 6MT with 90% fuel
  • 1570 kg = weight of M2 6MT with 90% fuel + 68 kg driver + 7 kg cargo
  • 1520 kg = weight of M2 DCT with 90% fuel
  • 1595 kg = weight of M2 DCT with 90% fuel + 68 kg driver + 7 kg cargo
The 68 kg + 7 kg = average figures set by regulations.

Higher figures for the US ? Probably because 68 kg + 7kg is too low as average weight for US drivers and their cargo.

Who the fuck is this idiot and why is he spreading misinformation about the engine.

He's wrong in saying that this block is from the s55, the intake is not from the s55 and the various coolers in the front are no accurate. There's an engine oil cooler located on the right side of the car and an additional water cooler on the left.

His facts are all wrong yet he's suppose to be a journalist.

Hmmmm.... I can think of many, many, more well-paid "journalists" who do this on a regular basis and no one seems to care. I was told once in a "Journalism" class in college (it was one of those requirements of being a "well-rounded" graduate or something like that) that, and I quote, "the job of journalists in the 21st century is to shape the world, not just report on it"... and that wasn't an observation of the professor, it was a command.

Off topic I know, but yeah, I feel your pain

You would think BMW would have supplied at least one Manual. I wonder if the pace car was?

The block is made from the same casting as the s55. The only difference between the S55 and this block is the LDS in the S55 whereas this still uses the cast in iron sleeves. Aside from that, they are both closed deck blocks that share absolutely everything such as dimensions and the aluminum alloy. There would be no point to make this motor entirely separate from the S55 when they can just add the sleeves/LDS after the basic casting process is done. The s55 and this motor share their pistons, however the first piston ring is different to account for the gray cast liners vs the LDS. I got all this info from the M2's technical document. They dont really go into detail about the rods and crank.
