Automatic Lights

Hi
I am advised by BMW Genius that when the light switch in the Automatic position there are two light detections levels. In the lower level i.e. less dark then the sidelight come on but no indicator lights are shown on the dashboard [ which seems rather odd to me] and at the higher level i.e. when it is darker the dipped headlights come on and a lights are shown on dashboard display [ which I have seen]
If anyone can shed some light on this issue ..sorry about that...it would be most appreciated.

I think the Genius was trying to explain that during the day your DRL's (angel eyes) will be on and when light fades the car will automatically put your dipped headlights on.

I mean the lights that you get when you use parking lights i.e. the outer ring on the two headlights plus the strip of lights above the headlights. Hope this helps.

the rings are lit all the time if you set them as DRL, and if your headlights go on they remain lit.
i hope that helps lol

Thanks Are you saying that in the A position the DRL `s are on all the time? And what are the DRL`s? And if so what is the O position for?

DRL is daytime running lights.

angel eyes/outer rings light up as DRL:you can turn them on IDRIVE settings under lighting.

they will remain on if you keep them in A or O

Thanks for that . Have just checked and as I suspected there is not an option for selecting DRL`s! Maybe because not requirement in UK?! Still confused!

It's a legal requirement to have DRL's on all the time in Europe so I believe that newer BMW's do not have the option to switch them off. My previous E70 did, however I haven't even checked my F10 as I like them on...

Therefore Auto and 0 just determine whether your headlights come on automatically or whether you want to manually operate them

That makes sense. Will check it out. I guess in that case no need for an indicator light on the dashboard cluster. Thanks very much for that.
