That is what I mean. Can you order the brakes separately. And if so how much. I am assuming more than the 8K they are as an option on the F8x.

I think that is a good question. If you take a close look a the moto GP pace car you will see the M4 ceramic brakes on them. It makes sense that given the suspension from the M4 was put on the M2 it could be done. It would be hugely expensive and I doubt it is needed for 99.9% of the drivers in the world but my guess is with enough money it could be done.

Well, we don`t 370HP, or 430 HP for that matter IRL..... I`ve had the PCCB on the CGTS, and oh man what beautifull brakes they where, performance wise an for the eye that is I would love the CCB on the M2, imagine the the golden calipers on the LBB.. Let`s not forget the unsprung weight is going to be about 50% less compared to its steel brothers. Also the lack of brake dust is a great advantage IMO, given the soft steel brake-pads BMW is using with create a lot of brake dust. Now the price is something else I must admit, but I expect they will become cheaper in time... Let me sleep on it........ |

This is when it's best to find a wrecked M3 with carbon brakes and pull them off. They would probably be a direct bolt in the way these cars share so many part numbers but who knows.

This is the type of modification I would like to see happen. Expensive though. But maybe a wrecked m3/4 would help.
Anybody planning on doing this in the next couple of months? What ever happened to the carbon fiber wheels BMW was working on????

It will cost you 20% of the cost of the M2 with little to no benefit... No benefit on the street and not much better than OEM rotors with good track pads at the track. The main advantage of CCB is they handle heat better. You won't see those temps (to induce fade) on public roads. You can also deal with the heat issue with proper pads on the track. In terms of stopping distance, there is little =difference (lots of discussions on the M3 forum) unless the steel brakes are fading which, as mentioned, you can virtually eliminate with the appropriate pads.
CCB's advantage, IMO, is the ability to go street to track without doing anything, dust and a bit of weight. The downside is HUGE cost. I can't imagine $11,000 is worth not having to clean the wheels a little more frequently

personally, I dont think they are worth it. regular BMW brakes hold up pretty well on the track. I've done 2 track days on stock bmw brakes 2 months a part and then took it to dealer to have them changed under maintenance. ceramics are not covered.

You will not even be able to order it with different color rotors let alone the ceramic brakes. I am sure they will put the ceramic on the M2 Csl version though. Lets hope it sees states side.

But what about weight savings? Ive read that it is only 15 pounds of rotational mass that you save. But have also read that it is 42 pounds of savings. Anybody know? 42 pounds of rotational mass would be worth considering...
