Accident in my new x1
I was driving down the road when another driver decided to run her stop sign. I slammed on the brakes and swerved to avoid being t-boned but had to avoid another car that was oncoming. The suv struck just behind the front wheel arch and went all the way to the rear wheel arch. A lot was paint transfer but unfortunately the metal was dented and creased. I hate it that I just paid the first note and this happened. Oh well, we are fine and the car will be repaired. 🙁

Sad to hear, but sounds like the car had good active safety, and you're all safe, which is the big thing. Don't worry about these ones....it's the shopping trolley scratches I hate!

I'm so sorry. It's awful to get into a accident on such a new ride.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that, makes me angry the way some people drive. Hope the car running the stop sign didn't get away with it. Did you have a dashcam?

Feel for you! I would be real mad....
On the positive side it does not appear to have any paint damage, I wonder if they could buff out the transfer and remove the door panels in order to do a paintless dent removal on it? I had someone scrape my F10 door recently with a very similar pattern but it was only on the one door. The paint was fine and it was higher up the door so I managed to get a dent removal guy to take it out using his pry tool through the window opening. Yours is further down though, so would most likely require removal of door panels to gain access.

Sorry to hear your bad news but at as you said, at least everyone is okay.
I really worry (and even dislike) owning a new car for the first 5 or 6 months. Normally it's after the first supermarket 'ding' I relax a bit. The way some people swing open their doors without any care or consideration really makes me angry. In some cases I am positive they do it on purpose. Now you can relax and enjoy owning a great car. |

I think we all really feel for you - such rotten luck.
My Peugeot is 11 years old and only has two little dings on it (because I take care where I park it) - yet I know that when the X1 finally arrives there is a good chance it will pick up some marks before too long - here in the UK we call it Sod's Law - you may know it as Murphy's Law |

Very sorry about your car and about what the stupid driver put you through! It really made me angry about how distracted and reckless many drivers are while they put everyone else's lives at risk. I was almost involved in an accident in my X1 just few days ago. The car that was about 10 feet ahead of me to my right all the sudden decided to make a u-turn right in front of my car. I had to step on the brakes so hard to stop my car just short of an inch from hitting that car's driver-side door. My car's proximity sensors were going crazy that made it sound like even my car was traumatized! I was lucky to be able to stop the car. At that moment I was fuming with the driver and can't imagine what would have come out of my mouth toward the other driver if I wasn't able to stop the car...
Glad everyone is ok, and that your car is being fixed! You have been so helpful with providing valuable information in customizing our X1s, and we all appreciate it very much. We definitely all feel your pain and hope you get your car back soon!

Thanks for the support gang. Met the estimator to get a preliminary estimate and said the front door would have to be replaced because of complicated body lines, the rear door would have to be repainted, the lower black trim and fender trim will also have to be fixed. The front fender can be repaired. She also said it was taking longer to get an estimate together because the car is not in their system yet and she is having to manually get part numbers and prices.

Update on my X1 repair. Luckily BMW was already producing parts for the new X1 and it won't take months. The repair center said it should be done tomorrow. The front fender was repaired, the passenger front door replaced and the passenger rear door repaired and all of the moldings along the side of the car. I'm looking forward to getting my car back and hope there are not creaks or rattles present.
I was able to talk my way into getting a new mustang convertible as loaner instead of a suv. It's a great looking car and is decent to drive but the fit and finish and quality sure make me appreciate the BMW brand. |

Picked up Billy Goat today. I gotta say, driving the Ford Mustang for two weeks sure made me appreciate how solid the X1 feels. So happy to have my Billy Goat back and the repair work turned out great. I drove it back to the mountains and am happy to report there are no creaks or rattles present from the dismantling. Very pleased with the outcome of this unfortunate event.

Crappy start to the thread, but glad everyone was ok, and lil Billy looks better than ever!
We get a lot of careless people here on the beautiful West Coast of Canada, too... my wife makes fun of me for wanting to park a bit farther and away from the crowds... the spots in the city are small and people park on the lines and swing their door without giving a damn. When they make eye contact after hitting my car with their door, sometimes they just roll their eyes... wtf? Fred |
