ISTA Rheingold CAS key 256 defective

Hello, i got a brand new key from dealer and it isnt working. I hooked up my recently installed rhinegold and i get the following message:

"The remote key with number:256 is inserted in the insertion slot.
The key number 256 indicates a defect of the key.
Keys cnnot be blocked or released.

does this mean the key is really defective?
or does it mean its the wrong key?

Why not have the dealer do the procedure for you?

The basis of how I understand this is, (if it is the correct key i.e. Comfort/ non-comfort) you need to delete one of the keys that was registered to the car and the new key you should be able to just put in the slot, turn ignition on and off and that should register it.

I will have to tow the car to them if i want them to do it, i live far from closest dealership.

Anyway,
I am trying to do it on my own, but i think at this point there is something wrong with the key, or CAS. or somewhere a fuse is blown.

I am having the exact same problem. Key is brand new wondering if this was ever resolved?
