n55 OFHG DIY

So I've had a slight leak in the oil filter housing gasket for a little while now and I think it has gotten worse and need to get it replaced. I got quoted $1,000 at the dealership. I know it would be cheaper to go to indy shop but I have a basic knowledge of my cars engine and installed the JB4 and helped with my catless downpipes. Do you guys think the DIY is too complicated for someone with basic knowledge or is it pretty straight forward?

There are multiple DIYs on the subject both with and without an oil cooler. It's not terribly complicated but does require some familiarization with your engine and what's under the hood

I did this not long ago on my n55 and you will need to take the intake manifold off to get at the back bolt on the housing. Not terribly difficult, but pretty time consuming for a noob like me.

How long did it take you?

Took 4-5 hours including an oil change. I'm sure it can be done faster but that was the first time I've taken the intake manifold off so I was pretty slow.

Also don't forget to bleed the cooling system once you've got it all back together.

Your 1,000 is WAY better than my dealer quoted me. I got quoted $1600 from my dealer, 1,300 by an indy shop.

This was with an oil change and coolant change too.

Good news is I have a mechanic friend who did it over a weekend for $400 + materials.
