JB4 HELP! Engine shuts itself off after install
Hey guys I need some help with jb4.
I recently bought a used n55 jb4 G5 stage 2 and installed it yesterday. After installation, the engine starts but the rpm goes up and down, shudders, misfires and finally shuts off after about 15 secs. It doesn't shut off if I give it some throttle in N but it shudders like hell and I get the yellow half CEL. I'm getting these four error codes. They keep appearing after being cleared. 2C85 Boost pressure sensor, plausibility: Pressure before throttle valve too high when engine not running 2C58 Boost pressure control, deactivation: Boost-pressure build-up blocked 2C83 Boost pressure sensor, plausibility: Pressure before throttle valve too high 2C71 Boost pressure sensor. Pressure too high Some key facts.. 1. The Jb4 came with FF wires and I did install it correctly (it was a PITA). 2. It has an older harness with a MAF sensor (purple). 3. Previous owner did ISO conversion and I updated to the latest ISO firmware yesterday. 4. Jb4 is on map 0. 5. I reset all settings to default including ISO ones using the steering wheel controls. 6. I reset the 'user adjustment' tab on jb4 interface according to the sticky thread on n54tech.com. 7. I pulled out all 3 connectors and made sure they are not plugged in backwards. The connections are clean and tight. Well, I could have screwed up but I really paid attention to the shape of the connectors and they all made sense. 8. I un-taped the felt tapes on the CAN wire bundles, took out the wires again, removed the black gunk again, cleaned with rubbing alcohol, re-wrapped tightly, heat-shrinked and put everything back together so I don't think the CAN connection is bad. I also made sure the ground connection is good. 9. My battery is running very low right now. I get low battery warning in 10 secs after inserting the key. Could this be the problem? I disconnected the negative terminal before installation. 10. I changed the spark plugs only about 6 months ago. Used Bosch oem ones. 11. I have ppk installed. 12. I didn't re-install the cowl before testing. Doubt it matters. Did some searching here and there and someone mentioned the boost solenoid connectors being loose. I double checked on that but they looked fine so I re-installed them carefully. + I noticed the MAP sensor on my engine only has 3 pins while the jb4 connector has 4 pins. This normal right? If not then I might have damaged it during installation without noticing. This is really about to turn into a nightmare.. Can somebody help me out please? I'll also post this on n54tech.com shortly. |

random thought but did you feel the map sensor click in? Maybe you have the wrong harness, that's the only difference between harness A/B.
Also on the harness did you leave the MAF sensor plug disconnected? That wire is no longer used. This problem sounds MAF related to me for some reason. Are you also running BMS intake? Did you remove the sensor and possibly not seat it fully down when reinstalling?

Don't use the MAF sensor Refer to step 5, quoted below. "Plug 3 MAF"

Are you planning on reinstalling jb4? I'm curious to know what the problem was.

I took it for a spin last night and it was pulling strong on the highway even in map 1 but not a night and day difference from ppk.
Learned everything in a hard way. Got it working in the end but for what cost. A noob like me should've purchased a brand new jb4 and start from there or just get a cobb AP. Things I learned: 1. You've got to plug the FF wires to the fuel rail sensor even if you'd never use e85. 2. Terry got rid of the reset button from the jb4 interface so you gotta type in values manually. If you're running ISO, you should use the ISO sticky thread not the non-iso one. The default values are different. 3. When in doubt, check the wiring. 4. A power drill with a set of sockets will come very handy. |
