A3 Saloon

What's the point?
I saw 3 of these today and I just don't get it..... surely if you want a 4 door Audi, you'd buy an A4?
It's not like they are chalk and cheese, the almost look the same!

May be price of size related... bit like saying if you want an estate why buy a 3 series when they do a 5 series.... or if you want a coupe why buy a 2 series when they do a 4 series...?

Except the A4 looks a bit dull, whilst the S3 seems to be one of the better looking cars Audi does. In think the S3 saloon looks great!

Whichever one you buy. They all look the same in my rear view mirror A1, A3, A4, A5.

I think the S3 saloon looks quite good as do some of the smaller Audi models, imo they start to look very frumpy when you get up into A6 and A8 territory.

Immaterial to me really as I would rather use public transport than have an Audi on the drive

I think BMW is guilty of that too.

I was on the A303 a few days ago and I had a 1 series up behind me and I thought it was a 3 series and then a 5 series behind me which I also thought was a 3 series.

Unless you have a BMW 'shed on wheels' behind you or a Z4 they all look very similar imo.

I always find it a bit of a disappointment when an Audi drives past me.They can look good and when they pass very bland.

Agree the best part about Audi's is the interior which BMW and certainly Mercedes could learn from.

I have yet to drive an Audi that came anywhere near to driving as well as its counterpart from BMW or Mercedes. Must add though I have never driven an R8 which I suspect is very good but there is just something about spending over £100k on a VAG product that sticks in my throat

This

A3 saloons are pretty popular here in NI and indeed in the south. Many markets prefer 4dr saloons to hatchbacks, maybe because they look a bit more 'prestige' compared to the usual 5Dr Euro box.

I like it. Nice compact saloon, looks excellent in S Line trims. It just my £0.02 worth.

Too many cars growing and growing in size.

New A4 like an A6 last gen and so on.

Appeal therefore is a semi premium but compact saloon.

By all accounts the B7 RS4 was the equal of the E9X M3, it's just a shame that Audi couldn't continue this run of form in later iterations of the S and RS models which do rapid and premium well but don't excite like M cars. The R8 is awesome and the fact it's VAG is irrelevant to me, so is a Bentley and Lambo, and it's like linking a Ferrari to Fiat Chrysler)

Point taken but it just seems a bit more obvious that Audi are linked to VW than say lambo or Bentley, VAG does stand for Volkswagen Audi Group afterall.

I am not sure what the situation is now but i looked at an R8 shortly after it was introduced and the seats looked the same as in a 30k Tittie

I test drove the A3 s-line saloon s-tronic and it was lovely to drive. The things I didn't like about were that it just felt a lot smaller inside than a 3 series and the window size was smaller so the top of the door was level with my shoulder whereas in the 3 series you sat a bit higher and had better visibility

So went with another 3 series and I pick it up on Monday :-)

the s3 saloon is much nicer than the A4, the real question is what is the point in the A4.

the A3 saloon is nicer

and the A6 is perfect

It's interesting Audi can do a good job of the S3, some how I think BMW would struggle to do a 4dr 1/2 series equivalent
