Thumbs down How I got F*cked by Dinan (Rant)

I'm making this thread so I can maybe save some 2 series owners from giving their money to an unethical 'tuning' company that carries no regard as a business beyond their relationship with BMW. Hope my loss of about a bill can save others

Backstory: So for a while I've been trying to get the Part #s for the Dinan Supplemental Ride Kit, fancy way of describing bumpstops. I needed these so that I can effectively run the Dinan springs, which I've only heard good things about unlike H&R

After failed attempts at trying to get other members to see if they can read the a number on the bumpstops themselves, I decided to call Dinan. Unfortunately I dealt with their asshole of a representative again (pretty sure his name was Darren) who told me that these bumpstops were not manufactured by BMW nor Dinan. So I took his word for it, and just ordered the Dinan bumpstops at full retail price of $130. Then they arrive at my door in a couple of days, awesome.

But, what do you know... there is a BMW logo and part# printed on the bumpstops. Rears could be had for $10-13 shipped for a pair, while the fronts are $10-20 depending on if they are genuine OEM or just OE equivalent.

I've heard people say that these bumpstops are off of an E30 or E36, both answers are wrong. Looks like that the front and rear bumpstops are for a E39 and E60 5 series respectively.

I know we've got to pay to play, but I never want to feel like I got fucked in anything I do.
Damn Dinan, at least buy me dinner first.

Thanks for the info! Can anyone else verify these part numbers? (Not that I don't believe you.) Going to pull the trigger on these.

They are the right part #
Not sure if anyone else would go out of his or her way to help you out, I've tried for weeks.

If you want, I'll post a picture of the part number printed on the parts themselves. Maybe that will give you some confidence.

Sounds like you are installing them yourself. So you aren't paying the 6.3 hours of labor. That's the real f***ing.

Amen

3hr job at most, if it's taking longer then the shop does not know what it is doing.

There's probably a number of different bump stops you can use for this - as long as they're shorter, they work.

The e36 M3 bump stops I ordered the other day also looked fine.

Interesting you mention rear bump stops - I didn't change my rear and haven't had any issues with travel (on H&R springs). The springs came with FRONT bump stops, nothing for a rear.

Are you going to or have you returned them to Dinan?

I thought about it, but that's not very ethical of me imo.
Just gotta take the hit and move on on this one.

I disagree. If anything, it's unethical for Dinan to be selling a BMW OEM part for 5X the price as their own. Great that you alerted forum members to this as it should save anyone thinking about doing this a good deal of money but why complain and not simply return the item for a full refund if thats an option?

Because I'm about use the part in a couple of days, I'm out of time and so I'm going to take a hit on this one like I said. If I really wanted to be an asshole, I could buy new bumpstops and just send those but I wouldn't feel right doing that.

Posting this thread has already saved one member from making the same mistake I made so I'd say my job is done

Sorry OP never saw your previous posts about the bump stops but I too can verify they are BMW parts with BMW part numbers. Mine have been sitting in my garage for a few weeks, no time to install.

To the OP... Nice work on your 2, it's the one I look at that keeps making me think maybe just stay stock height for mine. Looks like you decided to lower yours, kinda where I'm leaning obviously... I mean I do have the parts sitting in my garage lol

Thanks for your kind words! I wanted to play it safe and stay stock height, but man, I can't stop thinking about that wheel gap haha
I'll be sure to be posting my results, but I don't think I'll be needing anything else beyond a minor fender roll. The drop is quite mild on dinan springs.

I wouldn't expect them to care, it's just not a significant enough product to them despite the fact that buying them is practically a $100 donation to the company.

Isn't it possible to tag them within the thread if you know their screen name?

Damn that sucks. You beat me to the set of Springs a few weeks ago and I've been waiting to see an update on these springs - this is just shifty. I knew they were OEM from all the people commenting on them...but I didn't think they were $15 parts.

There are lots of great reviews on the springs already, that's why I got them. You should get them too, just sucks that they are a bit pricey.

GREAT info! Finally!

I basically knew 100% that Dinan was using some BMW P/N for the bumpstops but figuring out what P/N they carried was beyond difficult since nobody wanted to take 2 seconds and take a picture.

I actually came close to ordering E36 stops at ~$70, but maybe I'll get the ones Dinan uses since they must apparently work.

I wonder why they used:
A. 5er bump stops
B. 2 different bump stops from two different 5er generations
