Adam Johnson Sentence
What do you guys think of the sentence of 6yrs?
Reading the news all the time I feel that other "worse" sexual crimes have been punished with a lesser sentence. Either 6yrs is a suitable punishment for his crime or the other worse crimes have been under punished. Thoughts? |

Difficult one really, feels like he has been made an example of.
How many years did the lead singer from lost prophets get, that was doing unthinkable stuff down to baby age? WTF death sentence too lenient for those feckers. EDIT he got 29 years, good.

He's a sexual deviant who used his 'fame' to commit offences against a young girl. He deserved and received the same sentence that a person in a position of trust would receive. Morals of an alley cat.

It's true other people of gotten stiffer sentences. But if you had a daughter that's a minor you would agree with the sentence and maybe think it's not stiff enough.

I understand the comments above but my issue is that the sentence seems harsh compared to what others have done. The law should not make people scapegoats but give a fair punishment for the crime committed.
Female teachers who have befriended and engaged in sexual activity with teenage males in their care have walked away with community sentences and suspended sentences whilst having more serious degrees of sexual contact alleged against them. |

I've not followed the story in great detail so correct me if I'm wrong but I was of the understanding that she actively sort his attention and went out of her way to meet him? Eg did she not wait outside the club for hours to try meet him?
Nowadays teenagers when dolled up with all the makeup etc, you could be forgiven for thinking they were much older. If the above is correct, it seems to me that he has been made a victim of by a young girl who wanted attention and then cried the poor tale. His mistake was believing she was older than she was? Or did he know she was underage? If so he deserved it |

Agree with the OP that the sentence does seem out of kilter with other crimes that attract a similar prison term. Arguably one or other is wrong.

But this is someone who took advantage of his hero status to plan sexual activity with a 15 year old girl. I would suggest it could have got more serious if the police hadn't been notified by the school when they were, as the sheer volume of social media activity with her was intense. |

She did readily engage in messaging him, then messaging with him that is automatically deleted soon after - but star-struck kids would love attention from their heroes. It's a very sad way to behave from a wealthy guy who could find loads of older girls every night of the year, who would do anything for a footballer loaded with cash. It's a hefty punishment that rapists often get, and girl wasn't raped, though she did show some signs of protracted emotional trauma. This case does send a signal out to every footballer or entertainer etc to keep away from children, or risk losing everything. |

I don't necessarily think the sentence is too harsh but you have to ask yourself now that we are STILL in the EU how France can have a legal age of 14 and ours is 16.
If this was a French footballer in France with a 15 year old girl would there be the same uproar, I doubt it. |

I'll bring up the other 'argument' so to speak;
Based on the case, there's no evidence to suggest the girl had never engaged in sexual activity with anyone Hence, if she'd done the above acts with Josh from school (who say is 18) Would there still be the same condemnation? The main harm to her came after the fact , as in all the negative comments she received afterwards That's what's really affected her |

I have just looked up 'ages of consent in Europe' on wiki and am amazed at the differences. We start off at 14 in Italy, Germany, Portugal etc and go up to 18 in Turkey and Malta. I was also surprised at Ireland which is 17 unless of course you are a member of the Catholic Priesthood and you then get special dispensation |

Have a read of the court transcripts. This isn't a case of 'bloke goes out, cops off with a bird in a night club and it turns out she was only 15'. |
